Lisandro MAGALLAN to replace Victor CUESTA

8

It has been confirmed that Lisandro Magallan will replace Victor Cuesta in the starting lineup for tomorrow’s final group match against Honduras.  Julio Olarticoechea has stated that the match will be played as if it is a final.  Only a win will secure Argentina a spot in the quarterfinals as they are tied in points with Honduras and are down -1 on goal differential.  It should make for a very exciting but nerve-wracking match.

Match Prediction – Poll: Argentina vs. Honduras

With one loss and one win under their belt, Argentina play Honduras with everything on the line.

A win is the only thing that can take Argentina to the second round at the Olympics. A draw would take Honduras through due to goal difference (Honduras won their first match 4-3 and loss the second 2-1). A draw is no good for Argentina. With Victor CUESTA suspended due to getting red carded against Algeria, will Argentina pull out a victory or will they leave Rio early?

Javier PASTORE, CERVI score; PSG, United, Benfica win Cups

It was a weekend filled with Argentinians winning cups.

Javier PASTORE, Angel DI MARIA, Sergio ROMERO, Marcos ROJO, Lisandro LOPEZ, Eduardo SALVIO, Franco CERVI, Oscar BENITEZ and Luis FARINA all won cups with their teams.

In France it was Javier PASTORE who scored for PSG in their 4-1 win against Lyon to win their Trophée des Champions.

In England, Manchester United beat Leicester City 2-1 to win the Community Shield. Marcos ROJO came off the bench for United while Sergio ROMERO remained on the bench. For Leicester, Leonardo ULLOA came on as a substitute.

In Portugal, Franco CERVI scored his first for Benfica in their 3-0 win against SC Braga to win the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.

Match Highlights: Argentina get important 3 points in win

It wasn’t easy but Argentina managed a 2-1 win against Algeria.

A match involving two red cards, several saves by RULLI and guilt edge chances missed by Jonathan CALLERI were all part of Julio OLARTICOECHEA”s plan… Alright, maybe it wasn’t. However, Argentina remain alive in the tournament.

Victor CUESTA picked up a second yellow card and was sent off in first half injury time. But it was Angel CORREA who gave 10 men Argentina the lead in the 48th minute. Algeria equalised shortly after but it was Jonathan CALLERI who scored the game winning goal to give his team the important win.

In between it all was a massive Jonathan CALLERI miss and a Cristian PAVON shot that hit the post (which he should have passed to SIMEONE for a tap in).
