Argentina resume training ahead of Ecuador qualifier

Argentina resumed training after the win over Venezuela and are preparing for the final World Cup 2026 qualifier against Ecuador in Guayaquil.

On Saturday morning, the team began with a warm-up circuit focused on speed and coordination. The session ended with a 25-minute small-sided game under different instructions.

Lautaro Martínez continues to make history with the Argentina national team. The Inter forward scored in the Albiceleste’s 3-0 win over Venezuela, a goal that allowed him to surpass both Diego Maradona and Gonzalo Higuaín on the all-time scoring chart. With this strike, “El Toro” now holds fifth place outright among Argentina’s top goal scorers.

Speaking with France Football, Lautaro reflected on his current form for both club and country and made a bold claim about where he stands in world football.

“Among the five best. I don’t want to give names. Everyone classifies players in their own way, but what I’ve done in the last few years allows me to be among the five best forwards.”

The Bahía Blanca native also admitted he sometimes feels underrated, attributing it more to “image and marketing” than his actual performances. Still, he stressed that his focus remains on giving everything for his teammates and the shirt:

“At 28, I’m very happy with my career. I aspire to more recognition, but above all I’d like to be remembered as a good, respectful person.”

Lautaro also touched on the upcoming Ballon d’Or after finishing seventh in 2024, despite winning Serie A with Inter and scoring the decisive goal in Argentina’s Copa América triumph.

“I expected a better finish. I respect the judges’ decision, but I believe I deserved a higher spot after such a strong season.”
