Nicolás Tagliafico and Thiago Almada’s Lyon to remain in Ligue 1

In a major turn of events, Olympique Lyonnais—home to Argentina World Cup winners Nicolás Tagliafico and Thiago Almada—will remain in Ligue 1 for the upcoming season.

Initially handed a relegation penalty due to financial irregularities, Lyon’s demotion to the second division was overturned this Wednesday by the Appeals Committee of France’s National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG). The decision allows the club to compete in both Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa League.

However, Lyon must now operate under strict financial restrictions, including limitations on player salaries and transfers. As a result, potential departures—including that of Tagliafico or Almada—cannot be ruled out during the current transfer window.
