Argentine goal scorers at Club World Cup, Ángel Di María top scorer

Ángel Di María is the leading goal scorer at the Club World Cup and a total of 15 Argentine players have scored in the tournament.

The quarter finals of the Club World Cup kicks off on Friday and the leader scorer, Ángel Di María, will not be playing following Benfica’s elimination against Chelsea. The Argentine leads the tournament with four goals.

Lautaro Martínez, also eliminated from the tournament, is the second Argentine with the most goals, scoring twice for Inter. A total of 13 other Argentine players have scored a goal, those 13 players being the following:

Of those 13 players, only Enzo Fernández with Chelsea, José Manuel López of Palmeiras and the Fluminense duo Juan Pablo Freytes and Germán Cano remain.

Argentina Club World Cup quarter final preview, Enzo Fernández and Chelsea vs. Palmeiras

The quarter finals of the Club World Cup begins on Friday and seven Argentine players remain.

Enzo Fernández, Aarón Anselmino and Chelsea will play against Agustín Giay, Aníbal Moreno, José Manuel López and Palmeiras in the second match of the day. Two Argentine players will be making the semi finals of the Club World Cup.

In the first match of the day, Germán Cano and Juan Freytes with Fluminense will play against Al-Hilal. The winners of both matches will play against each other in the semi finals.

Saturday’s matches in the Club World Cup do not include any Argentine players as Paris Saint-Germain will play against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will play against Borussia Dortmund.

Argentine left back Román Vega joins Zenit St. Petersburg on five year deal

Román Vega has joined Zenit St. Petersburg on a five year deal.

Vega has put pen to paper and left Argentinos Juniors for Zenit St. Petersburg. The Russian club announced the signing, confirming that he has joined them from Argentinos Juniors.

The 21 year old left back previously played for FC Barcelona B. With the youth Argentina national team, he was part of the U20 team at the 2023 U20 World Cup.

He joins Luciano Gondou at the club and is the tenth Argentine player in the history of the club. He joins Alejandro Domínguez, Cristian Ansaldi, Ezequiel Garay, Sebastián Driussi, Emiliano Rigoni, Emanuel Mammana, Matías Kranevitter, Leandro Paredes and Luciano Gondou having previously played for Zenit.

Aarón Anselmino speaks on his Chelsea future, if he will stay or leave

Aarón Anselmino has spoken about his future at Chelsea and the idea of staying or leaving the club.

Anselmino is presently with Chelsea for the Club World Cup and having recently joined them from Boca Juniors, the 20 year old could be leaving the club. Speaking with Matias Pelliccioni, here is what he had to say:

“My idea is to get more minutes somewhere else… I think it will be useful for me and also for the Club.”

When asked about if he spoke to the coach and the possibility of returning to South America:

“No, my idea is to stay here, obviously, staying at Chelsea would be best for me but well, I spoke with the coach, looking also at the positions and the number of players…

“I think it would also be good to have more playing time, I think it will help me a lot too, to grow as a player.”

Gabriel Heinze joins Arsenal coaching staff

Gabriel Heinze has joined Arsenal’s coaching staff.

Heinze is back in the Premier League. According to David Ornstein, Heinze has joined Mikel Arteta, having previously played alongside him at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine spent three years playing in the Premier League, from 2004 to 2007 with Manchester United. Since becoming a coach, Heinze has managed Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Juniors, Vélez Sarsfield, Atlanta United and Newell’s Old Boys.
