Leandro Paredes spoke about Lionel Messi’s injury at the Copa America final.

Paredes was on the bench when Lionel Messi was substituted out in the 2024 Copa America final with an injury. He would go on to be substituted into the match and play an instrumental role in the winning goal scored by Lautaro Martínez to win Argentina the Copa America.

Lionel Messi was shown crying on the bench with a swollen ankle while Paredes was sitting next to him. Speaking in an interview with Telefe, here is what Paredes had to say about Messi’s injury:

“I didn’t look at Messi because I couldn’t hear him cry. I was surprised that he cried like that because it is very difficult for him to show what he is going through. Seeing him like that made me feel bad.”

Argentina team back in training before Colombia match

The Argentina national team were back in training on Saturday before Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying match against Colombia.

Argentina trained for the first time after their 1-0 World Cup qualifying win against Chile on Thursday. The team had Friday off to rest before Saturday’s training.

Ian Subiabre, Maher Carrizo and Valentino Acuña of the Argentina U20 national team also trained with the team. The team will train on Sunday morning.

Barco could be in the starting eleven for Argentina against Colombia on Tuesday. With Nicolás Tagliafico having received a yellow card for Argentina in the 1-0 win against Chile, he is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. According to DSports, Barco has a lot of chances of starting Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier.

The 20 year old has only played one match with the Argentina national team. His only game was in a 3-0 win against El Salvador last year.

Lionel Messi has played 192 matches in an illustrious career with the Argentina national team, spanning 20 years. Lionel Scaloni’s team have seven matches remaining in 2025 and should Messi take part in all of them, that would bring him to 199 matches with Argentina.

Next year’s Finalissima against Spain is expected to take place in March, which would be Argentina’s first match of the new year. Should he take part in that match and in every match before, that would bring the World Cup winner to 200 matches with Argentina.
