Argentina are making progress to get Enzo Fernández to play at the Olympics.

Javier Mascherano will have both Lucas Beltrán and Alan Varela at the Olympics and could be getting Enzo Fernandez. According to Gastón Edul, Argentina is making progress in getting Enzo Fernández to be with the team for the Olympic games.

They would join the base of Emiliano Martínez, Nicolás Otamendi and Julián Álvarez. Enzo is 23 years of age and would not count as an overage player but clubs are not obliged to release players for the games in France.

Mascherano’s team are in Group B with Morocco, Iraq and Ukraine. They play their first match on July 24 against Morocco in Saint-Étienne, their second game against Iraq on July 27 in Lyon and their last group match against Ukraine on July 30 in Lyon.

Javier Mascherano will have both players in Paris. According to Gastón Edul, Lucas Beltrán will be with the team and FC Porto have authorized Alan Varela to play at the Olympics.

The Olympic team will consist of three players over the age of 23 years old. Beltrán is 23 and Varela is 22 years of age.

Four World Cup champions missing for Argentina from preliminary Copa America list

Four players who won the World Cup with Argentina are not part of the preliminary team for the Copa America.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has announced his preliminary team for the Copa America and there are four World champions that are missing. Scaloni has not selected Juan Foyth of Villarreal, Alejandro “Papu” Gómez, who is banned for two years, Thiago Almada of Atlanta United and Paulo Dybala of AS Roma.

Juan Foyth has only played in 12 league matches with Villarreal, having missed the majoriy of the season due to injury. Alejandro Gómez is banned for two years due to a failed drug test.

Thiago Almada is not included as he will be selected for the Argentina U23 team for the Olympics, which will take part after the Copa America. The surprising name that is missing is Paulo Dybala.

The 30 year old has had a good season for AS Roma and there is no report yet as to why he was not included.

Here are the 29 players which have been picked and will be with the team for the matches against Honduras and Ecuador before the Copa America in the United States.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has announced the preliminary team for the Copa America and there is no Paulo Dybala, Marcos Senesi or Walter Benitez.

Lionel Scaloni has picked 29 players for the preliminary team which will play against Honduras and Ecuador before the Copa America. Leonardo Balerdi, Lucas Martinez Quarta, Valentin Barco, Valentin Carboni and Angel Correa all return and remain with the team.

Of these 29 players, three would be cut to make the final list of 26 players for the Copa America in the United States.

Gerónimo Rulli is expected to be called up for the Argentina national team before the Copa America.

Rulli will be returning to the Argentina national team after a year. According to Gastón Edul, Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni will be calling up Rulli to the team for their two matches before the Copa America in the United States.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni will be calling up four goalkeepers for the matches against Ecuador and Guatemala on June 9 and June 14, respectively. Those four being Emiliano Martínez, Franco Armani, Gerónimo Rulli and Walter Benítez, with one of them being cut for the Copa America.

The last time Rulli was called up for Argentina was in June 2023 for an end of the season tour in Asia. The goalkeeper got injured for Ajax during their first game of the season and was out for three months and eventually lost his starting spot in the team.
