Champions League Round of 16 Preview: Atletico Madrid host Inter

The Champions League Round of 16 continues on Wednesday with two matches, all involving Argentine players.

Atletico Madrid host Inter in a match that could have four Argentine players. Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid trail 1-0 after the first leg but do have Rodrigo De Paul, Nahuel Molina and Ángel Correa in the team.

Inter have Lautaro Martínez who has scored 23 goals in 25 league matches but only two goals in seven Champions League matches.

Walter Benítez and PSV visit Dortmund after their 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Alan Varela substituted out injured for FC Porto

Alan Varela was substituted out injured for FC Porto.

Varela started FC Porto’s Champions League match against Arsenal but was substituted out due to an injury. The match, which went to penalty kicks, saw Varela as one of the best players on the pitch but was taken out on a stretcher right before the start of extra time.

The club have yet to comment on the 22 year old’s injury.

Alan Varela and FC Porto take a 1-0 lead against Arsenal with the match taking place at the Emirates in London. The Argentine has started in every Champions League match for FC Porto this season.

Giovanni Simeone and Napoli are away against FC Barcelona with the first match having ended in a 1-1 draw. was brought on as a substitute against Barcelona in the first match.

Rodrigo De Paul spoke about Lionep Messi’s speech againste Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers and playing at the Olympics.

De Paul was part of the Argentina national team which won the last match in the World Cup qualifiers against Brazil. Speaking in an interview with somoslacasaok, here is what he had to say about Messi’s speech before the match:

At the Maracana, Leo’s words before the game were key.

“He told us “We lost to Brazil in 2019 and then we made history by winning the Copa America. We lost for the second time against Saudi Arabia, then we won the World Cup and made history. Now we fell for the third time against Uruguay, let’s to out today and make history.”

“That was incredible for us.

The 29 year old has won everything there is to win with the Argentina national team but he has not played at the Olympic games. Here is what he had to say about it:

“I would like to play at the Olympic games. I’m available. It doesn’t depend on me because it’s not a FIFA competition and the clubs are not obligated to release us.”

In the 86th minute, the Argentine received the ball inside the goal area, turned and shot to the back of the net to make it 2-1 for his team. Almería would tie the match in the added time.

Ocampos played most of the game as a left-back and received an 8.0 Sofascore rating. Marcos Acuña entered the pitch for Sevilla in the 59th minute, while Luka Romero started and Lucas Robertone played the last 25 minutes for Almería.
