Julián Álvarez scored a free kick for Manchester City in their 2-1 loss vs. Wolves.

Álvarez now has two free kick goals for Manchester City, this one a well placed effort. The Argentine continues to be one of Manchester City’s best players, if not their best player.

With Wolves leading 1-0, Manchester City were awarded a free kick and it was the World Cup winner who took it and scored to draw City level. Wolves would score minutes later and win the match but it was another solid performance by the Argentine.

The 23 year old has three goals and four assists in seven matches in the Premier League, starting in all seven games.

Ángel Di María scored for Benfica in their 1-0 win vs. FC Porto.

Di María is the ultimate big game player. Scoring in the World Cup final, the Copa America final and the Finalissima, he continues to do well in the big matches, this time scoring in the biggest match in Portuguese football.

It was a low pass into the penalty area which found the Argentine who scored for the fourth consecutive league match for Benfica.

Lisandro Martínez is injured and will miss Argentina’s October World Cup qualifying matches.

Martínez will not be with the Argentina team in October. Manchester United announced on Friday that he he “will be out of action for an extended period” after aggravating the injury he sustained to his foot last April.

The club announced that he sustained the setback during their game vs. Arsenal but he continued to play their next two games against Brighton and Bayern Munich. They also stated that assessments are ongoing to decide what the next steps will be.

Argentina play Paraguay on October 12 in a World Cup qualifying match and a second game on October 17 against Peru.

Nicolás González scored for Fiorentina and Matías Soulé scored for Frosinone in their 1-1 draw.

In a game which had two goals, both scored by Argentine players, it was Nicolás González who scored first. A cross into the penalty area and Nicolás González with another header as he scored to give Fiorentina the 1-1 lead.

Matías Soulé would draw Frosinone level. Once more it was a cross into the penalty area, this time flicked on and it fell to Soulé who headed it and drew Frosinone level.

González has two goals and one assist this season while this was Soulé’s first goal for his new club.

No Lionel Messi for Inter Miami in U.S Open Cup final

Lionel Messi is not in the Inter Miami team for their U.S Open Cup final game.

Messi is not in the starting eleven or on the bench for Gerardo Tata Martino’s Inter Miami for the final vs. Houston Dynamo. Martino spoke at a press conference on Tuesday about Messi’s fitness, stating that they would wait until Thursday to see if he would be able to play.

Inter Miami announced their starting eleven and Messi is not even on the bench. Facundo Farías starts with Tomás Avilés on the bench.
