Argentina won 1-0 vs. Brazil in a historic, record breaking World Cup qualifying match.

Nicolás Otamendi scored the goal which gave Argentina the 1-0 win in a match that was was delayed. Brazilian police attacked Argentina fans before the start of the match and the Argentina national team went back to their locker rooms.

The match was delayed but Argentina were back on the pitch and it was a first half which saw many fouls and not much football. The second half had more football with Brazil pressuring early on.

Brazil had much of the ball and Emiliano Martínez made a very good save and minutes later, Argentina had an attack which got them a corner kick and a goal. It was Nicolás Otamendi who scored the header off the corner kick to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.

Lionel Scaloni made a substitution after the goal with Nicolás Tagliafico being substituted in for Marcos Acuña. Scaloni made more changes with Leandro Paredes coming on for Enzo Fernández, Nicolás González for Gio Lo Celso, Lionel Messi for Ángel Di María and Lautaro Martínez for Julián Álvarez.

Rodrigo De Paul was fouled by Joelinton and Brazil were red carded. Argentina would win 1-0 and it was a historic win.

This was the first time that Brazil lost a World Cup qualifying match at home.

Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team have walked away from the pitch after Brazilian police attacked Argentina fans.

Brazilian police attacked Argentina fans in the stadium prior to the 2026 World Cup qualifying match. The teams were about to kick off when Brazilian police attackd Argentina fans.

Messi and the Argentina national team went up to the Brazilian policy to try and get them to stop. The Brazilian police continued and Lionel Messi waved no with his finger and the team walked back to their locker room.

Lionel Messi, Julián Álvarez and Gio Lo Celso all start for Argentina against Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers.

Messi and Julián Álvarez will both start up front as coach Lionel Scaloni will go with two up front. Gio Lo Celso also starts for the first time for the Argentina national team since before the World Cup.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has made two changes from their last match. Marcos Acuña starts in place of Nicolás Tagliafico and Gio Lo Celso in place for Nicolás González. Here is the starting eleven:

Argentina U17 win 5-0 vs. Venezuela at World Cup round of 16

Argentina’s U-17 defeated Venezuela 5-0 at the Indonesia World Cup round of 16 and will play Brazil in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Diego Placente’s team dominated the whole game and started with two early goals by Santiago Lopez. The first one came from a cross after a good individual play by Ian Subiabre on the left side, while the second one also came from a cross by Subiabre that was poorly cleared by the Venezuelan defense. Lopez controlled the ball and finished brilliantly with his right foot.

Still in the first half, the captain and number 10 Claudio Echeverri would establish a 3-0 lead after another good cross from the left side. “El Diablito” finished with class to extend Argentina’s dominance.

In the second half, Argentina continued having possession of the ball and generating dangerous occasions. After a foul on Franco Mastantuono, who had come in from the bench just a couple of minutes before, Argentina was given a penalty kick, and Venezula’s right-back Pablo Ibarra was shown the red card (second yellow). The Albiceleste’s number 9 Agustín Ruberto converted with a panenka penalty that hit the crossbar and then went in.

Some minutes later, Agustín Ruberto would score again after a brilliant turn inside the box and a precise finish with his left foot, giving Argentina the final 5-0 lead. The striker scored in every game of this World Cup so far.

In the post-game interview, Claudio Echeverri stated the desire of his team to get the trophy:

“This team is ready to be champion. We thought it before arriving in Indonesia to play the World Cup. It is the only title we are missing, and we are going to try to do our best to achieve it.”

Argentina’s U-17 will play Brazil in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Brazilians come from a 3-1 win vs. Ecuador.

Leandro Paredes and Marcos Acuña both have chances to start for Argentina.

Paredes and Marcos Acuña could be starting for a midfielder and Nicolas Tagliafico. According to Gastón Edul, Leandro Paredes has a chance to be in the starting eleven in place of another midfielder.

Nicolás Tagliafico started the 2-0 loss against Uruguay and he could be rested in place of Marcos Acuña who also has a chance to start.
