  1. Argentina managed possession exceptionally well, especially in their defensive areas. Even after scoring the first goal, they never really looked like a team feeling the pressure. The nervousness only came late on because the lead was just one goal. Their passing quality throughout the match was excellent, yes of course a few mistakes, helping them stay composed and control the tempo against Austria.

    • Part of the reason the midfield looked nervous was because there was not enough width, and almost everything had to go through the center. Austria gave very little space to play the ball smoothly in their half, which made progression difficult.

That is why I believe we should give Simeone more opportunities. He has the ability to stretch the opposition’s defensive shape with his intelligent movement on the flanks, which would create more space for the midfield to move the ball around more smoothly through the center.

I actually feel the midfield has been better than it was in the first two games of the 2022 World Cup, but it has been held back by the lack of attacking movement from the wings. More width and off the ball runs would make life much easier for the midfield and help the team play with greater fluidity.

  2. I just realized that I haven’t wished Messi birthday here yet, because I wasn’t here yesterday.
    Happy birthday Lionel!

  3. F*** how lucky is this vincious and mbbape both getting goals from silly defender mistakes and going for golden boot without any struggle… Messi scored 4 of them outside the box and 1 while 4 defenders blocking him

    • This party won’t last long, once they start facing serious opponents it wont be easy. Easy games sometimes give confidence that team is doing good etc but the moment such teams face real opponent that is when the real test begins.

  4. In the last game I saw very few players outside Messi attempting dribbles and running with the ball. This was strange because Argentina has always had good dribblers. I hope the likes of Paz, Barco, G.Simeone or Lo Celso will get some time and show some skills. I also hope Messi does not play more than 45 minutes or one half. We want a fit Messi for later stages. May be we can also try out the other goal keepers Musso and Rulli.

  5. Just how many jerseys does Mexico have? Played with green in their 1st game, with black in the 2nd and today it was white. I thought teams are not supposed to have more than 2 jerseys?
Anyway, I like this Mexico team. I hope they go far, since they will not be in our half of the bracket.

  6. Its seems that there are a few international friendlies happening within the World cup because of the 48 teams in this tournament. Many goals are being scored against weak opponents by the bigger teams.

    • Partly agree. However, Sweden, Scotland, Uzbekistan and Senegal were not easy opponents for Netherlands, Brazil, Portugal and France. Those teams have got back their rhythm and teamgame fluidity against difficult opponents. Even Austria was not an easy opponent for us. However, we won because it was a Messi show once again.
