As part of the 50 days, 50 Argentina World Cup moments, we will be counting down the top 50 Argentina moments at a World Cup using the daily number.

We are just 42 days until the start of the FIFA World Cup and in 42nd place we have Pedro PASCULLI finishing off an absolutely lovely team play against Uruguay at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

It was Argentina’s Round of 16 match against Uruguay. A battle of the river plate and a repeat of the 1930 FIFA World Cup final. Two time world champions Uruguay against then one time world champions Argentina. A match decided by a goal late in the first half from Pedro PASCULLI.

An absolutely fantastic team goal, similar to the one the 2006 team scored against Serbia and Montenegro at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Not to mention the team was also wearing the dark blue shirt as were the 2006 squad. There was a certain fluidity of the passes, a back heel by BURRUCHAGA, a short dribble by MARADONA, a cutting pass inside the area and a clean finish by PASCULLI.

Here was Argentina’s starting XI for the match:

18. Nery PUMPIDO
2. Sergio BATISTA
5. Jose BROWN
7. Jorge BURRUCHAGA
9. Jose CUCIUFFO
10. Diego MARADONA
11. Jorge VALDAO
13. Oscar GARRE
14. Ricardo GIUSTI
17. Pedro PASCULLI
19. Oscar RUGGERI
