The Argentina preliminary squad for the Pan American games has been announced and as expected, there are no overage players.

Fernando BATISTA, who will coach the U23 Argentina team, announced his preliminary list of 22 players for the games. Of the 22 announced, only 18 will make the final cut for the tournament in Peru.

With it not being an official FIFA tournament, the clubs are not obligated to release their players. No players from Boca Juniors, River Plate, Racing Club or even Independiente were named. Here’s the preliminary squad:

  2. A senior to lead this team would have been great…. Dont know many of the players….. I wish them best of luck…. I hope they give their best….

  3. I believe that Dominguez, Gaich and Vargas will be the first ones to be in the team A. I believe that in 2022, our 11 will be: Benitez-Foyth, Kannemann, Romero, Tagliafico-Zaracho, Palacios, De Paul-Messi-Lautaro, Gaich.

  4. This is more like U-20 team. Few players of second league.

The list of absences is impressive. Two most important for me: Alexis MacAlliser (new Boca player) and Cristian Ferreira (River). None of them is going to play immediately as starter in upcoming CL games of the clubs so this is ufair they keep them.

Still Velez realease two players that are among most important for them: Vargas and Dominguez. Gaich and especially Herrera are important for San Lorenzo.

    Ascacibar (Stuttgart)
    Matias Zaracho (Racing)
    Ezequiel Palacios (River)
    Romero (Genoa)
    Robertone (Velez)
    Almendra (Boca)
    Lisandro Martinez (Ajax)
    Marcos Senesi (San Lorenzo)
    Almada
    Claudio Bravo (Banfield)
    Maxi Lovera (Rosario Central)
    Garre
    Gonzalo Montiel (River)
    Matias Pellegrini (Estudiantes)
    Juan Brunetta (Belgrano)
    Federico Navarro (Talleres)

Foyth and Lautaro in other category already

    • Batista’s selection is towards Olympics next year I guess. Really happy with Fernando Valenzuela’s inclusion. I used to keep tabs on him while he was a star at Racing’s reserves. He is now the second top scorer at 3rd tier Prim B Nacional playing for Barracas Central. Another academy star then Facundo Castro is also at Barracas. Batista has managed to identify the likes of him(Valenzuela) and 2-3 other players from 2nd divn.

      • Yeah, remember the showy Valenzuela driblings when he was emerging in youth divisions as another “new Messi”. Hope for the best for him.

Lomonaco and Novillo should be in final 18 as well. The first looks like material for outstanding striker while the second superb defender.

        • Lomonaco is a German Denis kind of ‘El Tanque’ I guess. Even Claudio Spinelli was good until before he left for Europe. In many ways he used to remind me of the younger version of Carlitos Tevez. Now he’s back at Arg Juniors.

          • Most players here are in 19-21 range. So it’s like these players are put in the groove prepping up for Olympics next Summer in Tokyo.

          • Spinelli still has a lot of time to fiind himself again.

Novillo is new Cristian Lema with the height?

        • One thing I like about Batista is that he handpicks those most coaches would overlook or tend to underestimate. This now really looks like a great resource pool. Further, Medina, Ortega, Moreno, Vera, Urzi and Gaich get another opportunity to win something playing together.

          • “One thing I like about Batista is that he handpicks those most coaches would overlook or tend to underestimate”

absolutely. Some unkbown though really promising boys

    • I m a huge fan of Nico Gonzalez I hope he may turn out to be a good player for argentina…he had a tough start in Germany but I think he has just too much talent ….he has pace , he has an eye for a pass , he can link up well, he has particularly not good finishing but it can improve….I just don’t see in him any weakness talent wise…..but not sure about his mentallity.

    • Marcelo Herrera is really really promising right back. Already some great performances for San Lorenzo A team

  5. Best out of the names:

    ……………………………………Cambezes
    …………………………Mosevich……….Medina
    Herrera………………………………………………………………Ortega

    ………………………..Dominguez….Colombatto
    ………………………………………Necul

    ……………..Gonzalez…………………………………Vargas
