  1. Why is there still this obsession with Armani here??
For years we were begging for a solid GK, now we have a great one and an abundance of good options for 2nd and 3rd with Musso, Rulli, Benitez, Ledesma etc

Wanna know the real reason why Armani keeps getting selected over better keepers?
    1. Armani has been part of Scaloni’s team since day 1, and we have counted on him many times to end up where we are today. 29 matches unbeaten is not only because of Dibu.
    2. Minus S.Romero, Armani is the only goalkeeper with WC experience. Experienced with international club tournaments, winning 2 of 3 finals of Libertadores. He was also captain of River, one of the biggest clubs in South America.
    3. He is THIRD choice GK. Not first, not second. I will parrot Csabalala here, rule number 1 for GK selection: pick the 2 best keepers and a 3rd who isn’t necessarily next best, but someone who brings good spirit/encouragement/personality/experience and helpful in the locker room, while being fine with not playing

All these things count for something. In fact, he is better suited for 3rd choice and deserves this spot more than anyone else imo. Kicking him out now after 4 years would be a clueless decision by the coach.

      • Armani is our third GK my friend. this is how it looks from trainnings in Ezeiza. Musso is second from what Scaloni have make me see so far in trainnings.

    • my friend i had try to explain those things in past but some people don t want to understand.
so i stop mention this subject and i just observe it as funny anymore. you waste your energy too my friend. some people interested very much about who will warm the bench as 3rd GK.
so let them be interested. they are free.

      • Indeed it’s pretty funny, creating a “problem” out of nothing just to have something to complain about the coach.. For me it’s a sign that we have it pretty well 🙂 🏆

      • Those of us who watched Germany vs. Argentina in 2006 WC can really understand the imoprtance of a good golie backup. Leo Franco was one of the reasons Argentina lost to Germany. He conceded the equalizing goal after coming on as a sub and later failed to save a single penalty. Armani is the second choice of Scaloni in my opinion which is a very bad decision. This is our concern as @Insider said.
Armani has only two WC matches under his belt and he conceded 5 goals. That never qualifies him as an experienced WC player. It was just 180 minutes of nightmare for him. It seems the pattern of bad selections by the NT team coaches continues and won’t end soon. From 1994 till the last WC every Argentina coach made some big mistakes. This is the naked truth.

  2. When I look at the list, seems no change in the formation. I’d like to see Messi slightly deeper as 10 like his position with PSG, closed to De Paul, Paredes and a left midfielder(Lanzini or Lo Celso), in a 4312, behind Lautaro+Angel Correa(or Julian Alvarez+Nicolas Gonzalez/Ocampos). Scaloni should use their pace and running for pressing and counter attack.

Seems obvious that Dybala is not in Scaloni’s plan, he took Di Maria who has harmstring injury and all those young players instead of him who just recovered from injuries.

    • Dybala is injury prone like Kun of last 2 seasons. He gets injured in every 1-2 games. Even when he started against Uruguay and provided winning assist, he gets injured after the first half just from a small knock.

    • Messi already doing that from 2018 world cup and after. just then it was not so visible because of his stamina. as the years pass and his strength get lower because age it is became more used. Messi reminds me Diego of 1994. he move free in the offensive half of pitch and the 2 others in front change places to cover the other spaces.

as about Dybala i agree with what Rattlehead said.

  3. Where is Gio Simeone, unfit ?
Lucas Boye deserve the chance and hopefully he got a minute to play; it will between Lucas, Gio, Alario as a third choice. Mc Allister still need improvement. Lanzini need to stay fit and can support the mid creativity missing puzzle except his injury prone is the main issue, he is N/T material. Julian Alvarez need to be start and give a playing time. Build the chemistry at earliest possible formal games.

Overall the selections is good and the idea to brings along the youths can be a booster to the youngster and a way to search for the best. The team need a 18-19 years old potential players as a surprised element. So miserable approach by Arg coaches especially Peckerman who didn’t give a chance to play Messi at QF against Germany 2008 or even Menotti didn’t call Maradona at his early 20’s. And now we still bring Armanni and ignoring Benitez. Yes, it’s more on political rather than tactical. N/T need River Plate and Boca players in the team

A mistake should be learned not repeated

  4. Who are out: Emi, Cuti, Lo Celso, Buendia, Papu, Acuna, and Dybala. Also Nico Dominguez (shoulder injury).

The good thing is only 2 matches and we have already qualified. Just like the last time, this time we are also thin in midfield. Paredes-Guido/Palacios-De Paul will start for sure. Unless they wanna play A Correa in midfield, the only back ups are Lanzini and MacAllister who is very not convincing to me. Lanzini is OK though.

Upfront we are rich. More than 2 in every position:
    RW Messi, A Correa
LW Nico Gonzales, J Correa, Ocampos
    F Lautaro, J. Alvarez, Boye

  5. I would like to see lanzini get some minutes in this last round of qualifiers.
I don’t care if Armani is called or not. Either way he won’t play. I know it takes up a spot, but it’s common now to call three keepers up and sometimes four. It is stupid, I agree, but it’s mainly a precaution.

  6. Lanzini is in great form in West Hem,he is doing everything passing, ball retention, breaking lines he should be given chance in playing 11.
Foyth is also doing great in Villarreal against top teams or top player he looks solid and has become more matured now.
This midfield and defence squad would be great:-

    Midfielders Defenders
    1 De Paul 1 C. Romero
    2 Paredes 2 Otamendi
    3 Lo celso 3 Acuna
    4 Guido Rodriguez 4 Mollina
    5 Papu Gomez 5 Foyth
    6 Manuel Lanzini 6 Tagliafico
    7 Palacios 7 Lisandro Martinez
    8 Pezella
    9 Montiel

  7. Armani will be the qatar.it seems that They(scaloni and armani) have vowed never to be different.

  8. One thing is very clear now; Scaloni is trying to keep Armani happy as much as he can. He used to call up four keepers in the past qualifiers, but now that Emi is out Mr. Scaloni uses three keepers instead of four. Don’t get surprised If someone say Armani has a bigger chance to represent Argentina in Qatar more than Leo Messi has (the GOAT). In some countries there are marginalized communities in every aspect of life. Although I am not sure if that kind of practise is in Argentina, I sometimes think that Walter Benitez is from such a community.

  9. Sad about the suspended players, three of them are core first team players, not to mention Acuña who was in great form and Papu who would back up Lo Celso. Either way I am happy with the list especially to see all the youngsters get called up.

  10. J correa & boye over gio simeone is unfortunate. But still digestable as long as it wont be Armani starting over ruilli & musso

  11. I am surprised to see Dybala and Simeone out of the team…!
Lautaro backup will be Alvarez and Boye..? Both are hardworking players…
