Paulo Dybala has reached a verbal agreement to join AS Roma as he is in Portugal to undergo a medical.

Dybala will soon be an AS Roma player. According to transfer football expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Dybala has agreed to join the club.

The 28 year old is presently in Portugal, where Roma’s pre-season training camp is based, for his medical. The three year contract would reportedly be for €6 million per year, including bonuses.

A second report, this time by César Luis Merlo, also states that Dybala has agreed to join them. It would be for a contract until 2025 with José Mourinho and Totti being key in Dybala’s decision to join.

Some reports claim that Dybala will get the #10 shirt which was made famous in Rome by Francesco Totti. Separate reports state that he will instead wear the #21 shirt.

  1. I could complain about how it’s not some top champions league Real Madrid type club but really before the World Cup all I care about is his fitness and minutes on the pitch. His injuries have been a huge problem these last couple of years and I could care less whether it’s Inter, Napoli, Roma, Milan, etc. He’s talented enough that all he needs is to be in form and fit to make an impact in every available minute he steps the pitch in Qatar

  3. I would have preferred him at Napoli but even at Roma he can have an opportunity to revive his career. If he is to be in the consideration for Qatar then he needs regular minutes and I don’t see anybody who can bench him at Roma. He also needs to stay healthy of course.

I think he is likely to play as an attacking midfielder (centre-right, drifting to the middle), almost a second striker but a bit deeper alongside Pellegrini in a 3-4-2-1 position with Tammy Abraham ahead of him as a number 9. Should suit him well playing there.

Roma is typically good to our players: Bati, Samuel, Burdisso, Pastore, Lamela, Perotti, all had decent to excellent time there.

    • Napoli wouldn’t have made it very far in the Champions League and Dybala’s desire to stay in Italy meant he had very few options. Between Inter, Napoli and Roma, Inter would have been best for us and him, but I think Roma fits him better as Mourinho is looking for a player to build his team around and Dybala will finally have a team where he will be the center of every attack.

  4. One of the important clause of Dybala deal is a low release clause. He only has a release clause of $20M and its a 3 year contract only, till he is 31. The deal allows him to leave next year, if anyone is ready to pay 20M

    • Dybala now is facing the fact that he is no longer the world golden boy. He was in decline in the last 2-3 seasons where he was supposed to be at his peak. Well the injury problem too of course, but he was never as consistent as Aguero for example who had 20+ goals in Europe for many seasons, let alone Messi.

Now he faces the reality that the world does not think of him highly. Even when he was in free transfer and asked for such a low salary, not many wanted him badly. Hope he will play with a chip on his shoulder. I know he is better than this. All he needs is just ONE season with 20 goals plus and hopefully take Roma to the top 4. Then next year he will be among the most wanted players again.

      • Dybala is insanely talented and creative there is no denying in that but football has changed alot in last 3-4 years.
We can see in recent big money transfers like Tchouameni, Jesus, Kamara, Raphinia there is one thing common in these players is their off the ball work these players dont shy away from pressing continiously but the players like Dybala lacks off the ball work which is requires these days for big club to win Titles. Same reason Ronaldo is unwanted for clubs like Chelsea and Bayren although he can gurantee 20+ goals.

  5. End of the day, its a decent move! Though Roma isn’t in UCL, as a champion of Conference League they’ll play UEL directly where he’ll play against big clubs. Roma is a historically rich club & now coached by great Mourinho.
So..join there, give ur best, show the world how good u r! Waiting for GLC move. Both Villareal or Fiorentina will be good..

  6. Mixed feeling. It bothers me, makes me sad, that a player of Dybala’s pedigree struggled to get a club, as a free agent. Roma is not an UCL club. He could easily be in a UCL club. That too at 6M, when alexis sanchez and dzeko making 7-9M? Crazy..lol!

But hey, its good anyway. Preseason has started. Need a club. Mou might get some steel out of him and he will take penalties, free kicks and all. Be the leader and take them to CL next year. I still think he is the heir to Messi and that day is close.

Like others said, GLC to get a decent Spanish club now. Spurs must bring the price down to 10-15M.

    • Mou did wonders with Dimaria as far as dicipline. It may be exactly what he needs. Also at Roma he wont have to deal with the club constantly displacing him with other high profile players like Cristina did. Its a good move. Until he proves consistency and injury free, he is a 2nd rate forward.. with the potential to be 1st.

  7. Smart decision by Dybala. The preseason already starts. Some of our seleccion players have already played 2-3 games with their clubs. Dybala can’t wait for Inter until they sell Alexis Sanchez. He needs to be in shape too.

Roma badly need him. He will be a key player there. He will have the role of Dybala of Palermo, where every attack would go through him. Now only Lo Celso without a club.

  8. So happy for him. More happy that Jose will make him more stronger. Surely he is in WC squad now unless some drama happens. Now only Lo Celso left then we sorted. As long as all of them play regularly and stays fit we will have a very good campaign for sure.
