Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praises Julián Álvarez

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had nothing but good things to say about Julián Álvarez.

Pep Guardiola has managed some of the best and for many, the best players to have ever played football. While it is no secret that Guardiola loves Lionel Messi, his love for Julián Álvarez appears to be growing per match.

Julián Álvarez once stated that prior to the World Cup, several Manchester City players were speaking about who could potentially win the tournament. And he had mentioned that Guardiola hinted at Argentina being one of the favorites. Quotes from ESPN:

“One of the first days (at Manchester City) Pep, the Portuguese, and Rodri were talking about who could win the World Cup, I didn’t say anything. They were saying Portugal, France, other European nations and Pep says, ‘do you know who has the best chances?’ They don’t say anything and he points at me.”

And following Manchester City’s 2-1 win vs. Fulham where Álvarez scored the goal of the match, Pep spoke at a press conference and here is what he had to say about Álvarez:

“Julián is something special too. He scored a perfect goal, all the action was brilliant. The vision to have the second one, to play in that position […] Listen, he’s playing with the national team, the World Cup champions and if you are not good, you cannot play in a World Cup champion team. Thank you to the club to discover him, for this price, for a young player.”

  1. Very interesting development happening for Julian Alvarez under Pep.

Earlier in the season he was mainly a sub for Haaland. Also as a wide forward in place of Foden, Mahrez etc. Recently, he is more like a replacement for De Bruyne. Which is a very unique one. He is seen as almost too versatile to be anywhere. It will be interesting to see the remaining matches for City. I have a feeling he might be more regular next season.

  2. Alvarez is the future for us. Also very classy. He can play three positions. Very happy for him and us of course.
I have to mention this a second time, has anyone notices that 90% of Lauturos goals are a strike while sliding. Take a look at his highlights.

    • He is called el toro after all. Lautaro is fearless and full of grit. I want to see Julian and him together. Julian free role with Lautaro as the Halland poacher.
