FC Barcelona coach Xavi reportedly admires Gio Lo Celso of Villarreal.
The club have been linked with İlkay Gündoğan but another name is now being mentioned. According to Ferran Martínez of Mundo Deportivbo, Lo Celso fits Xavi’s profile of a playmaker needed to help get Robert Lewandowski goals.
Gio Lo Celso is presently signed to Tottenham Hotspur and spent last season on loan at Villarreal. Alex Baena of Villarreal is also another name that is being mentioned.
Lo Celso is presently with the Argentina national team as they tour Asia. He took part in Argentina’s 2-0 win vs. Australia on Thursday in Beijing.
Weird turn of career for Lo Celso…
It’s hard to resist a club like Barcelona but can Lo Celso challenge Pedri, Gavi and De Jong? As much as I admire Lo Celso myself, I doubt it. He needs to be a starter.
Locelso’s issue has been his team-mates. He has always been surrounded by average and incompatible players at every club he played. He plays great with national team because the quality of teammates is quite high and the chemistry is far better. At Barca he will have to definitely start from the bench and Gavi and Pedri being Spanish they will get most of the mins, however they aren’t Xavi or Iniesta and also their fitness track record isn’t great. But he will mostlikely be a backup. Aston Villa would be a better move for him. The coach likes him and he will get more mins.
