Maxi Rodríguez held his testimonial match on Saturday with many invitees.
Arguably the biggest icon at the club, it was the Newell’s Legends against the Argentina Legends and even though Argentina took an early lead, it was a 7-5 win for Newell’s.
Lionel Messi made his return to the club for the first time in 14 years and scored a hat trick. It took him just four minutes to score the first goal of the match.
Messi scored three for Argentina, Maxi himself scored one for Argentina and Martín Posse all scored. For Newell’s, Gabriel Batistuta scored a penalty, Maxi scored two, Ignacio Scocco scored two, Denis Rodríguez, who is Maxi’s cousin scored one and one of Maxi’s daughters scored.
Some funny and highlighted moments of the match include Lionel Scaloni with a slide tackle and Ever Banega fouling the referee with Maxi himself giving Banega the yellow card.
