Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni commented on Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María, Nicolás González and Emiliano Martínez.
Lionel Scaloni held a press conference on Wednesday before Argentina’s World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay on Thursday and the coach spoke about Lionel Messi’s lack of playing time. Here is what he had to say:
“Leo (Messi) is here to play. When he is here to play, he will always do so.”
Scaloni also spoke about Messi winning the Ballon d’Or and Emiliano Martínez winning the Yashin award for best goalkeeper in the world:
“Leo was always the best and now Emiliano joins and we are happy. More than that they deserve it, he is a guy that is very loved by us, undoubtedly all that he has given to the Argentines and we are grateful. It is a pleasure.
“People debating Messi’s Ballon d’Or? I don’t really understand those who discuss Leo’s Ballon d’Or. I imagine it’s because they want to generate a debate but I no longer believe there is a debate left anymore.”
He also spoke about Nicolás González and Ángel Di María:
“Against Australia, both played. It depends a lot on where we hurt them or they can hurt us. We see Nico on the left, he has always played there and Ángel on both sides. They give us something similar but especially depth with three more inside midfielders but the difference is in what we think is going to happen in the match. Both have given us a lot.”
Starting XI should have been Messi, Di Maria and Alvarez. Then comes Nico and Lautaro at 65th depending on situation.
