Champions League Round of 16 draw: Argentine players remaining

The draw for the Champions League Round of 16 took place and seven of the eight ties all include Argentine players.

A total of 11 Argentine players remain and of the 11, only one of them has won the Champions League. Julián Álvarez is that one player and he with Manchester City will look to retain their trophy after being draw with Mateo Tanlongo and FC Copenhagen in the Round of 16 draw.

One tie has four Argentine World Cup winners, including a finalist from last season. Lautaro Martínez and Inter have been drawn against Rodrigo De Paul, Ángel Correa and Nahuel Molina of Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone will continue his quest to win the trophy that he has come close to lifting in previous years.

Another draw involving an Italian club against a club from Spain is Gio Simeone and Napoli against FC Barcelona. The final Spanish club with an Argentine player is Nico Paz and Real Madrid against RB Leipzig.

Taty Castellanos and Lazio will play one of the favorites in Bayern Munich and Alan Varela with FC Porto play Arsenal. The final tie and the only one that does not include any Argentine players is PSG against Real Sociedad.

While the draw took place in December, the matches will be taking place in February and March. Here are the ties for the Champions League:

FC Porto: Alan Varela vs. Arsenal

Napoli: Gio Simeone vs. FC Barcelona

PSG vs. Real Sociedad

Inter: Lautaro Martínez vs. Atletico Madrid: Rodrigo De Paul, Ángel Correa, Nahuel Molina

PSV: Walter Benítez vs. Borussia Dortmund

Lazio: Taty Castellanos vs. Bayern Munich

Copenhagen: Mateo Tanlongo vs. Manchester City: Julián Álvarez

RB Leipzig vs. Real Madrid: Nico Paz

  1. Enzo is injured. Hopefully he recovered soon. With Copa just 6 months away. And lots of football there are many chances of others player getting injured too…

  2. What’s happening to Enzo Fernandez. I Know I will sound controversial but his performance has declined for the last 3 months. Today he has been substituted before end of of first half. Whether if he is injured or not he not performing well.

    • Fortunately and ironically, it was due to an injury. Hopefully not a major one. He hasn’t been pathetic but he is a goal scoring and chances creating midfielder and in that department he has been a flop! He still has the best positioning awareness in that Chelsea team but he hasn’t been able to capitalize on it. Not because he lacks skill but due to the combination of poor team-mates and low confidence which is going down every match.
