Julián Malatini joined Werder Bremer from Defensa y Justicia and will not play the pre-Olympics with Argentina.

The 22-year-old Argentine, who was presented yesterday with his new team, traveled to Germany four days ago and left the Argentina U23 squad. Javier Mascherano will not be able to replace him with another player outside the list since Malatini’s departure is not due to an injury.

Malatini is a 1.91-meter center-back, who can also play as a right-back. He started his senior career in Talleres de Córdoba and then moved to Defensa y Justicia. Speaking to the Werder Bremen website, here is what he had to say:

“I’m really happy to be here and to be a part of the team. It’s a big step in my career. I want to make the most of this opportunity and do my bit for the team.

“The decision was made quickly. After I was told that Werder were interested, I got in contact with the head coach. It’s an opportunity that you can’t pass up.

“I play with aggression. Defence is my calling. I had a brief chat with the head coach about the team’s style of play, and I think that I’ll be able to fit in well with it.

“I hope I can be involved in the next game. That’s obviously the head coach’s decision. I think that I’ll be able to help the team as soon as I get on the pitch. I’m ready.”

  1. I believe this player has zero confidence in himself. I think if he had confidence in himself he would have known that after the tournament he would have a bigger chance to land in a bigger club. He just wants to jump in any wagon that is available because he knows he is not that great. No Argentine player should leave the NT in the middle of preparation to go to Werder. I wish him good luck and success but he doesn’t have balls…

    • What they’re saying

“I can say that I’m a very quiet person. However, on the pitch I’m totally different and play with a lot of aggression. I never give up on a ball.” – Malatini discussing his style

“We’ve heard very encouraging things about Julián. He’s a tall defender with good raw pace and tackling ability, and he has great potential. I’m looking forward to working with him.” – Werder Bremen boss Ole Werner”

This is what found about him so far , let us hope he settles quick

  2. I don’t know anything about Malatini but his 191 cm plus passing skills, positioning and pace (if he has all those) can be useful if he develops into a good defender. Right now our tallest defender is Pezzella who is 189 cm. Height alone is not enough. What is Malatini like?
