Emiliano Martínez spoke about his form, the World Cup being the most difficult trophy to win, Lautaro Martinez and his penalty saves vs. Lille.
Martínez gave an interview where he spoke about the Argentina national team and wanting to go to the Olympics this summer. In the same interview with Gastón Edul, he also commented on his current form. Here is what he had to say:
“I feel much more complete than I did in my first Copa America and much more complete than I did after the World Cup.
“I know that my best moment is coming and I want to prepare for these 20 days like I never prepared in my life.”
He also gave his thoughts on the World Cup being the most difficult trophy to win, after Kylian Mbappe had stated that the Euro’s were more difficult than the World Cup:
“There is nothing more difficult than a World Cup, we all know that.”
He also commented on Lautaro Martinez:
“Lautaro loves to take penalty shots during training, he loves it a lot. He took a great penalty against the Netherlands. We were joking to him a bit because he had missed in the Champions League.
“He was taking shots without a goalkeeper and I told him it was easy to shoot without one. ‘Get in the goal,’ he told me. So, I saved the first one and walked away. I celebrated right in front of him, haha. There’s a great vibe in the group.”
In regards to his penalty kick saves against Lille in the Conference League:
“I have never been so insulted in my life. I stopped the first one (penalty kick) and silenced the fans who spent 120 minutes insulting me.”
