Emiliano Martínez has apologized for being suspended for Argentina’s two World Cup qualifying matches.

Martínez will miss Argentina’s two World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Bolivia due to suspension. He is suspended for his gesture with the Copa America trophy.

The goalkeeper took to his social media and posted the following:

“I accept the sanction from FIFA and I apologize if I offended anyone, the moment of celebration is to make many kids smile and not to disrespect anyone. I will support my friends in this FIFA date with the pain of not being able to be there.

“It was never my intention to disrespect anyone, nor did I understand that a gesture well received by people was offensive, but I will try not to offend anyone anymore and just focus on winning titles with Argentina and Aston Villa.”

  1. Caught up on some games and…..

Paz and Perrone continue to impress, Paz in particular has the potential to be a generational talent if he continues to progress under Ces. That pass to Cutrone was….messi-esque! I mean….just…… wow!
Soule had a good game with Roma even if he didn’t get on the score sheet. The kid has the tenacity and the talent to succeed so I’m not *very* worried about him after all the instability that’s been happening with Roma. next to Paz, Matias is the u23 Argentine with the greatest ceiling IMO.
Lastly for Serie A is Santi Castro, really happy to see him do so well especially since he came into Bologna with very little fanfare, hope he continues to grow.

Of to Spain and Celso is killing it, nuff said! I just pray that he stays fit because that’s his one and true achilles heel/kryptonite.
Maffeo is excellent with Mallorca and should be called up.
Julian playing LM? Seriously Simeone!! And yet despite of all that he actually played really well, but by god I really hope this type of nonsense doesn’t continue otherwise Julian woud’ve been better off staying as a backup in City, where he atleast got to play close to goal.
Depaul had a solid -if unspectacular- game as well but the star of the night is Angel Correa, the posterboy for the underrated, unsung hero. I’ve honestly lost count how many times he’s stepped up for Atletico and yet I don’t think Simeone has treated him properly during the last 2 seasons and part of the blame is one Angel, who should’ve left the club years ago when Milan came calling because he deserves to be a star and a starter somewhere else.

    And lastly to England:

Well I gotta say that now I’m getting worried about Licha because no thanks to Ten Hag’s idiotic tactics he’s getting exposed and is committing one silly mistake after the next and if this continues Licha will end up losing the qualities that makes him such a good defender. Ten Hag needs to go.

  2. Scaloni has to try new fullbacks on both flanks! Both sides need new blood as non of the 4 are reliable! Yes, Tagliafico is still good but his offensive aspect has cost us multiple times. Molina has been subpar and is a bench player , Montiel is a backup and Acuna has left Europe.

  3. Without Cuti, Emi, Tagliafico (probably) out and struggling Montiel & Molina, we are going to have tough times in the next two matches. They were relatively easier opponents. Now things look bit uncertain. The others in the team should take up more responsibility. Good to see Lautaro back to scoring. Alvarez is still struggling to settle in. Still he managed a last moment one against Celta and a fair outing against Real. Messi would be back but he is yet to hit the Messi standard, which I doubt he ever will again.

    • Musso opted to become a benchwarmer at Atletico (a la Sergio Romero) so I doubt he would start. Most likely Rulli who has more caps and is a starting GK at Marseille. Borth are decent keepers but it’s still a downgrade from Dibu who is one of the best goalies in the world and in the history of Argentine football…
