Gerónimo Rulli to start for Argentina, Cristian Romero suspended vs. Venezuela

Gerónimo Rulli is set to start for Argentina and Cristian Romero is suspended for the match against Venezuela.

Rulli will be the starting goalkeeper in place of the suspended Emiliano Martínez. With Franco Armani having announced his retirement from the Argentina national team, Rulli will start the World Cup qualifying match against Venezuela on Thursday.

Cristian Romero is also suspended for the match against Venezuela. With no Romero, we could see a centre back partnership of Lisandro Martínez and Nicolás Otamendi.

The Argentina national team trained on Monday night in Miami. They will play Venezuela on Thursday and next Tuesday will play Bolivia.

  1. I have no reason to sweat. With a proper system and group of players in place, Scaloni has set the rhythm making absentees impact peripheral. A very balanced, result oriented and consistent team. Obviously no one should take things forgranted but it seems all power house National teams will struggle to easily reclaim their dominance as long as Scaloni is in charge atleast till 2026 WC.

For the october qualification matches am curious to see how Ballerdi is going to faire (if given minutes).

    • Yes, balerdi should get minutes… We need some back up for licha and romero, yes otamendi is there but that is not enough plus barco should have been picked… When going forward he is pleasing to the eye. Scaloni needs to give confidence to him.
By the way in midfield there is no nation stronger than us. Hopefully we can find some talent in defense and wings.
