Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about Alejandro Garnacho and Taty Castellanos.

Lionel Scaloni substituted both Alejandro Garnacho and Taty Castellanos into Argentina’s World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay. Speaking to the media at a press conference after the match, here is what Scaloni had to say about both players:

“We are looking for depth with the entry of Garnacho. It is good for him to play this kind of matches. The introduction of Castellanos was good, he has interesting movements and we are happy to have him with us.”

  1. I think Scaloni should consider to drop otamendi as soon as possible.bcz he is again failed in todays match .First goal again also his ariel.mistake i think..Adding youngsters like romero is good benefit in nxt wc.And also need to drop Enzo fernandez .He is also lost his foam when he arrived in wc matches.scaloni must give more olaying times for Almada paz etc.and add varela angel correa Couple of CDefs players and Cdmfs

    • Team needs new blood to be infused. Balerdi was extremely nervous today. But over time, he would be steady (I hope so). We cannot afford Otamendi any more. He was responsible for both the goals today. In case of the second goal a whole bunch of opponent players approached the ball unguarded. Molina was full of mispasses after the first 30 mins. Alvarez was missing his pressing act. The team is currently full of problem. Scaloni’s lack of courage to sack a few and start building a new team is one of the problems too.

  2. I think we need new players in Left back and CDM position. Tagliafico is a very average player and Enzo is defensively very weak. We need players who is aggressive. Defensively as well as offensively. In a team full backs are very essential position.

    • Problem : Barco doesnt perform with Sevilla.

For CDM position there are Varela who is super good with Porto but Scaloni didnt even know his name ….

As CB we have Romero and Lisandro. but Left Back and Right back are very weak position

  3. Building a team takes time to get the players to work together and gain a tacit understanding. There are only two years left now. In two years, some players will be too old and their physical fitness and level may not be enough to cope with the World Cup. Some players have currently lost their chance to play regular games at the club. Some players have returned to the Argentinian league. Two years later, Messi’s condition and ability will only get worse. Do we still need to rely on them? We thank the coaching staff and players for winning so many trophies. However, if the coaching staff does not have the courage to reform, it is appropriate to fire the coaching staff now. The Argentinian national team will not always revolve around certain people, we need to move forward

  4. I don’t know if the coach doesn’t have the guts to use new players, the new tactics, or the Football Association’s requirement to use players from the same team. The team’s performance was already declining during the America’s Cup. However, the coaching staff did not improve the team’s performance and still used the same 16 or 17 players. Even if new players are recruited, most of them are accompanied in training and have no chance. The team obviously lacks progress. Even if the new players may not perform well immediately, they need to train new players for the future. Is this poor performance because Argentina does not have outstanding young talents or the coaching staff is conservative and does not want to take risks?

  5. I would say Scaloni ‘s era is near the end .He had done a few mistakes though he won three important titles .Actually I think those three titles are won by team unity,Luck but not tactics .

After the world cup he never improved the level of the team but still count on those players .Now the team seems to have regressed and run out of luck.
    The problems are

1, Always use the same 15 to 16 players no matter if they are physically fit or not .

2, No opportunity given to newcomers,At best give the last 15 minutes

3,Tactically conservative ,No suitable wingers at all when dimaria retired

4, Some players are not good enough but are still selected

5,still count on messi despite he is near retirement.

6,no high quality Newcomers for LB RB

7,The team lacks desire to win

The following is a brief summary of the players

    Goalkeeper : No problem

    Otamendi: Must get out

    Pezella : Out also

    Romero: Retain, core players

Lisandro Martinez: Not fit at all ,Playing as CB at Manchester United seems to be underperforming. Selection depends on fitness

Molina:The defense was too poor and should be relegated to the bench

    Montiel: Out

Tagliafico: Average ability, too old to be reliable

Balerdi : The goal conceded has something to do with his lack of experience. Can stay on the team

Enzo :Too slow, lost position in Chelsea, lack of progress. As a defensive midfielder, his defensive ability is insufficient. Personally, I think I should give up on him for the time being

Mcallister: Not fit at all but he is useful

De Paul : When messi isn’t fit and near retirement we don’t need him at all .no creativity Inadequate goal scoring ability

Paredes: Out .he is near returning to Boca junior

Palacios : Out ,. his form is declining sharply in Germany

Barrenechea : Not national team material

Garnacho : Insufficient dribbling skills weak at one on one ,not that good at finishing poorer than Nico Gonzalez . we don’t need that type of players until he improves

    Lo celso : injuried proned

Bounanotte : not impressive at all

Messi : Should retire Reluctantly staying in the national team will affect the team’s reconstruction

    Strikers : no problem

We need to give the following players opportunities, which may not immediately improve the team’s strength Otherwise, it will be impossible to achieve good results in the World Cup two years later by relying on the same group of players.

    CB: Nahuel Perez ,Senesi ,
RB: Giay ,Pablo Maffeo ,ERIC meza
    LB: Lucas Esquivel, F ortega
DM : Exequiel Fernandez ,Cristian Medina (though he played as no.8) ,Santiago Hezze
CM : Valentin Carboni ,Nico Paz
AM : Franco Mastantuono, Matias Soule
Wingers : Exequiel Zeballos ,Benjamin Garre

We should retain the following players
Dibu Martinez ,Molina ,Romero ,Balerdi, Mcallister, Lo celso ,Nico Gonzalez , Thiago Almada, Lautaro ,Alvarez ,Tatty castellanos

    • Well, i think there many valid points first of all in your post and the truth is, that Pezzella, Otamendi, Montiel should had retired by themself’s latest after last Copa as i was very surprised to see them even included in the last Copa team,

but also Scaloni has to let go off them, because rebuilding take’s time and Senesi, Perez and Balerdi should had been given a way more playing time as what they have got til’ now and Specially now,

when both Licha and Cuti not fully fit, but Still i think they might be the best CB pair for ARG if both are fully fit, but also it is hard tell until other CB canditates will be tested and 1 or 2 game’s are simply not enough,

well they might had been for DIBU and CUTI and also Licha, when he took his place, which in my oppinion should been given him too way earlier as he received it etc.

And also you are deffenetly more, than right about LB/RB position as, this been the most vulnerable part of ARG team since WC and Still nothing been done to fix it..?

As i’m not saying Tagli and Molina has to be dropped from team too, but Montiel, Pezzella and Otamendi should be dropped with due every respect etc…

But also if new LB/RB will never be given chances to proove them or not, well anyhow we won’t know or none will know until some new RB/LB will be given proper time and in the end it may not work or hopefully it will…

But if nothing is never done about it, well nothing will change as only players will get eventually older and kinf of guarenteed, that they own those spot’s where ever they will be positioned on the pitch.

Ok as another thing there maybe not so many options for to try LB/RB, but there are Still some and until there will be more options, well those who can be and must be Still given chances to proove them or not…

And that take’s time, where we can jump forward to main point, which is time and by this i mean there are time’s, when team have found their best core and surely ARG has been very succesfull in this by winning 2 Copa’s and WC and Finalissima too and every team who will win big trophies will allways need some luck in the end…

But also a very unified team can create their own luck as u said ARG been very good at this and it has been clearly in my oppinion their or at least one of their main strengths + players were on their best, when it mattered the most by winning the Copa at Maracana and Finallisima and ultimatly the WC after such a long time of waiting for this to happen…

But, well, allready at last Copa, there were clearly signs, that changes should had been done straight after WC, though ARG won the final against Columbia, but was not on same level in overall team terms, than previously, when they won first Copa, Finallisima and WC as maybe CUTI and LICHA were amongst the best in team after DIBU!

But, if i was surprised about some player selection for last Copa ( Pezzella for example ) as others might had just survey it ( like Guido, Ota and Montiel for example), but i was quite sure, that all these name’s will either retire by themselfs, which would had been the best for them and honourable thing to do…

But, if not at least Scaloni and Co. should had talked this trough with them, because nobody can’t exept them to play in WC 26, but instead of this happening, well surprise, surprise they are Still among the team, which should be alarming big time for ARG as WC 26 is just around the corner and there won’t be literally any friendliess to play as also it has been known for quite some time or infact since the WCQ’s started, that ARG will Qualify ( Ok i get the point of seeding for WC and that ARG want’s to be in best possible top bracket etc…),

but also even so, well with Still continue to constantly picking those who should had allraedy retire honourable way as Di Maria did for example, well it is just wasting more and more time to rebuild for the WC 26, which is more, than needed if ARG want’s compete at highest level and currently ignoring the fact, that will most propably or should i rather say will be guaranteed and ultimatly cost ARG way too big time, indeed!

All these players who have served ARG so, well in the past, but are clearly now more, than way over past their prime as some been allredy for quite some time ( Pezzella for example) even he is now out,

because of injury won’t guarantee nothing, that he when he is fit again, well there yet Still any signs not to be selected again and same goes for Ota and Montiel too and unfortunatly i might share some of your ” fear” about some other’s too like maybe Paredes unless he hit’s the best form his life, which is quite unlikely considering how Roma has ended up in such a mess etc…

As it is simply nothing personal against any of theese players, who i think should retire by themselfs as i will allways be ever more, than thankfull for what they have managed to achieve with ARG like Montiel’s penalty in the final for example etc…, because seeing ARG won their first WC and again at 86’ or playing again in final 90’, but loosing in the end, yet winning Copa at 1993, but after that as we all know and many can remember, well it tooked quite some time, though it should had happened at least 2014 as maybe even 2006….

But, what is more, than worrying is, that they are Still around team and get regularly selected, because i simply can’t belive, that they will be at their best or even close to, that , when WC 26 starts and therefore all theese changes should been done before or way before as now i’m bit worried or actually quite worried about time as i fear, that ARG is just wasting it big time and the cost of it might be if not allredy now, but surely very soon such a high price, that simply, that wasted time can’t be bought back again..

Still, in the end there are many players Still left who can be usefull for ARG, but also many, that should be dropped straight away if they don’t retire by themselfs and also some, that can be left out for some game’s to try out others and easily those can be called back again if necessary, because many are Still quite young and have gained a lot of experience allready with ARG and, then there all those young names, who some might be ready and some may not, but until they are fully tested and given proper opportunity,

well it is impossible to know, but Still it has to be done, because rebuiliding allways has to start from something and surely Scaloni been calling young players more, than previous coaches and even more so lately, but their overall playing time with ARG is, Still very limited so until they have been given proper time and tested is not really time to bash them for bad performance, though some should had done surely better, but all this take’s time as it is completly different to be part of training sessions, than playing SA WCQ’s regardless the opponent etc…

According to those name’s, that u mentioned who should be dropped out i may have to disagree a bit and mostly, because they have hardly featured so far for ARG yet and, because they are Still relatively young or very young so i want to see them in action first to give my final verdict on some the names like : Enzo, Palacio, Barrenechea, Garnacho, Buonanotte for example as all are young or very young and i think i will hold on to MESSI even he is getting older unfortunatly, but might be influential for young players, though not starting allways with him, when he is fit to play will be difficult as he allways want’s to play as long as he can and well, it might be also either advantage or disadvantage, but Still i will TaKe, that risk as 1 old player will not be so decissive as picking many old players and who are even more so performing badly etc.

And for Lo Celso even very injury prone, Still i will TaKe the risk and decide, when the players has to be decided for WC 26 at latest or if he will not get injured before and hopefully not….

So i think in the end it has been more, than clear to everybody, that Pezzella, Otamendi and Montiel ( most likely too and due to his Late form, which has been known for quite some time too…) should has been out/ retired / dropped from ARG team latest after last Copa and if ARG want’s start really rebuilding this where it should had allready and must be now started and, then due to form and also, because others need to be given proper chance with more, than good minutes given and couple of game’s to see if they are up to it or not, because time is ticking even faster and there are not many game’s left, where they can be tested etc.

Well, time will tell and hopefully this will be started against Peru, though i must say i’m a bit sceptical, that will be the case against Peru, but if not again another opportunity wasted with even less time to give proper minutes for those who have yet to feature so much etc…
