Giuliano Simeone’s early goal was not enough as Atlético Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Eduardo Coudet’s Alavés on matchday 3 of La Liga.
The 22-year-old forward, son of coach Diego Simeone, struck in the 7th minute after battling inside the box and finishing at the near post. Out of respect for his former club, where he played between 2023 and 2024, Giuliano chose not to celebrate.
However, Atlético’s lead lasted only seven minutes. Nahuel Tenaglia, another Argentine presence, was brought down inside the area by Alexander Sørloth. Carlos Vicente converted the penalty to level the match in the 14th minute, sealing the final score.
The clash at Mendizorroza was a meeting of two Argentine managers, with “Cholo” Simeone on the Atleti bench and Eduardo “Chacho” Coudet leading Alavés. Several Albicelestes featured in the starting lineups: Julián Álvarez, Thiago Almada, and Giuliano Simeone for Atlético, while Facundo Garcés and Tenaglia started for the home side.
For Atlético Madrid, the draw marks a third consecutive match without victory after a loss to Espanyol and another draw against Elche. With just two points from three games, the capital side currently sit 14th in the table, a shaky start to the new campaign despite the heavy Argentine presence.
Taking on players is only permitted for senior members of the team. However, as mentioned, if he goes against the coach’s instructions and successfully beats his man, he will be allowed to continue doing so. But if he fails and loses possession, he will likely be benched. Mastantuono will have to find his own way, just as alvarez did, who also had to deal with being overlooked at City in his first season.
Facundo Garcés chose to represent Malaysia.

Vins junior is greedy bastard
Its not just Vini, almost everyone is avoiding Mastantuono. They just can’t stand the fact that an outsider especially an Argentinian came from SA and got into the starting lineup almost immediately, whereas Vini and co. had to wait for long time. I hope Alonso keeps his trust in Mastantuono. But TBH it’s Real Madrid, he has to show real character and be more protagonist. He needs to do more take-ons. I’m already seeing his energy and confidence level getting a hit.
Completely agree with you , he needs to show more character and take one on one more but again it 18 years old kid with biggest club in the world pressure is hitting him already
I like his game. He’ll surely prove his worth with time.
