Ángel Di María spoke about the Argentina national team and Lionel Messi.
Di María played his last match with the Argentina national team in the 2024 Copa America final, lifting the trophy with Lionel Messi and Nicolás Otamendi. Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports, here is what the Argentine had to say:
“I don’t miss the national team. I felt it was the right time and many will agree with me: these guys are ready to go at it alone. A new generation is coming. Nico Paz, Garnacho, Thiago. They deserve to play. It makes me incredibly happy.”
When asked about Lionel Messi playing his last World Cup qualifying match:
“Leo (Messi) hasn’t retired yet. It will be the last qualifying match, but he still has a World Cup and will surely have another match after. For me, it’s not a farewell. That’s why I didn’t go. I spoke with him. I’m happy that he’s still around.”
