Aston Villa advanced to the UEFA Europa League semifinals after a 4-0 win over Bologna at Villa Park, with Argentine players involved in the result. Emiliano Martínez returned to the starting lineup and completed the match, while Emiliano Buendía scored one of the goals. The English club progressed with a 7-1 aggregate score.
Martínez had missed the previous match due to a muscle issue but was back in goal and kept a clean sheet. Buendía scored his first goal since January and now has eight goals this season across all competitions.
In the semifinals, Aston Villa will face Nottingham Forest. Nicolás Domínguez started in Forest’s 1-0 win over Porto, which secured a 2-1 aggregate victory and qualification to the next round.
Real Betis were eliminated after a 4-2 loss to SC Braga. Giovani Lo Celso did not play, while Valentín Gómez and Ezequiel “Chimy” Ávila were on the bench.
The semifinals will take place on April 30 and May 7. The final will be played on May 20 in Istanbul.
