Agustín Giay could replace Leonardo Balerdi in Argentina national team for World Cup

1. In Scaloni’s mind , I think the eight defenders are:
   Molina Romero Lisandro Tagliafico
   Montiel/Giay Otamendi Medina Barco

   {From Right -Left}

2. Molina will be ready. If not by first match, he will be fine for 90 minutes in rest of the games. He will be undisputed RB.
   Giay has limitations, but is perfectly fine as a substitute for Molina. Better than Montiel. Montel should go out.

   In Balerdi’s absence Guido or Capaldo should come in. Guido is a no brainer Substitute after 2-0 up to solidify the defensive mid at the expense of Messi or any other attacker. He is the weapon to neutralize the repeat of Netherlands like situation.

   I have very good hopes from our attackers. I don’t see any games atleast till Quarter Finals where we can’t make a 2 goals gap by 70th Minutes. I know such prediction is immature. But it’s very likely if everything goes right. In such scenario a tall defensive dude like Guido can give the team a much needed life insurance. Paredes, De Paul, Enzo, Palacios: None can bring in what Guido can, in the dying minutes especially.

   Capaldo can be a good addition for LB. I don’t trust Nico there. I don’t know if Tagliafico can perform again. Medina did much better than expected. But still Capaldo can be a good addition considering his Versatility. He can be a Eric Garcia type utility player.

   But I prefer Guido & Giay. Montiel must go.

3. My choice is Guido Rodriguez because of heights. Argentina don’t have defenders with good heights.In the world cup against physically strong European teams we need tall defender or midfielder to close out the matches specially after 70 or 80 minutes when we have 2-1 or 1-0 etc. Lead.
   As far as Augustin giay he deserves to be in the team however only in place of injured Gonzalo Montiel.

   • guido is not a defender he is a defensive midfielder but very slow

     • Everybody know he is a defensive midfielder but in emergency situation he can play as defender. He played crucial role in copa America 2021 and play as stop gap defender in matches. I think you don’t understand my points. Argentina has already otamendi, lisandro Martinez, Romero & Medina, that’s why scaloni don’t want to bring another defender.

4. I have surprised by the performance of Valentin Barco and Agustín Gaiy in both matches…they both exceeded my expectations of their level… 👌

5. i think we need 3 change in world cup squard..
   1/ Balerdi …..( Injure )
   2/ Montiel……( not good shape )
   3/ Taglafico …( over age and slow. last 2 mounts he didn’t played full 90 minutes.)

   Team need Senesi,capaldo and giay for strong defence.
   Capaldo can play left and right back, Central defence,defensive midfilder and midfilder..his varsalite can help argentina..

   • Senesi = Waste of spot due to Left footed CB Then Licha>Otta>Medina
     Taglafico = Solid LB but Capaldo Not

6. He is trash!!! Did you guys not see the first possession from Iceland when she should have had a tip in goal because Giay was beaten EASILY to the inside and then medina was beat to the back post!!! Montiel and Molina are solid… Giay is a leak in the damn
   And so did Gonzalez defending and Medina. We need a left back after Tagliafico!!!

   • All the three good chances that Iceland got, LBs were standing close and watching. In the first one Medina did not cover the pass from no. 11 well and hence their no. 19 had the net kept wide open to him. It was bizarre for him to miss the goal. In the second opportunity the number 7 dribbled past Nico and then took the shot. Medina did not try to push forward. He moved his head away from the line of the shot. In the 3d one, when no. 10 chipped in the ball and no. 17 missed the header from such a close range, Nico stood close to no. 17 and watched the ball go. Another of the Icelander ran past Medina to the clear. So no. 17 had the option to head a pass to that player. So in all 3 somehow LBs were in lapse.

7. I hope he makes it to the World Cup squad for Argentina, I think he deserves it even more than Montiel.

8. Senesi officially joined spurs….so Cuti-Senesi duo will be there so why not use it in this wc

9. this Current squad with all issues, still Argentina is scary for any team 😀

   This team most versatile can play 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 4-5-1, 3-3-3-1, 4-3-2-1 Vamos

10. Ice land high ball cross we never able to resist its was their lack of finishing ability to those headers led them zero goals
    Teams gonna surely target our back line with high crosses. Thats why scaloni me want guido to the squad he is tall and good at high ball set piece defence

11. If Montiel is not fit enough remove him from squad. What is meaning of taking 3 RB. Take another CB in place of Balerdi. I dont know what is the condition of Paredes. I dont what why Scaloni is taking so many injured players. Paredes is essential I understand but why 3 RB? That’s unnecessary.

12. I still dont know who is the extra LB Scaloni is counting upon….. Medina? And make-shift Nico Gonzalez?

13. Giay can play as centre back in three man back line and he is also a right back so he will be ideal

14. Actually This is team requirement. Molina and Montiel not fit enough to give their best in group stage. RB is in serious trouble…

    • If Molina and Montiel is not fit remove one of them. Why new RB?
