Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about the team’s 3-1 win against Switzerland, the young players and the match against England.
Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference after Argentina’s 3-1 win against Switzerland. Here is what he had to say:
“We managed to pull it off. It helps a lot to know what we might run into.
“Not all teams are as physically strong. We suffered but to reach a World Cup semi final, it’s very difficult not to suffer.
“We also suffered in Qatar, maybe we played better than today but we also suffered.
“This is thanks to the players. I trust that they could be there before the game. I had thought about making some changes but they showed me that they can be there.
“Putting aside today’s match, I’m satisfied with the team’s performance. We have to keep working.
“That the people enjoy. This is a semi final, it’s not something small.
“Without the players that we have, it would be very difficult. The team always tried until the end. That is something to be salvaged.
“The team always keeps its cool. Switzerland is a great opponent and made it difficult.
“We are in a privileged place in football. That is something to keep us dreaming until the end.”
Scaloni also spoke about the young players in the team:
“If the younger players have to play, they will play. It has nothing to do with age or anything like that.
“Flaco López came on today and he did very well.
“It’s not a problem. It’s not that they don’t play because they are young. Barco has already played, Simeone has already played.”
About the match against England:
The match against England is a football match and nothing more. We area going to play against them, they are a great opponent, period. Nothing more than that. A football match.”
