Argentine Champions League preview: Lionel Messi, Nicolás Otamendi, Enzo Fernández

The Champions League continues on Tuesday with still a lot to play for with two games remaining.

Lionel Messi is back in the Champions League for PSG as they play Maccabi Haifa. They are joint top of the group with Benfica.

Nicolás Otamendi and Enzo Fernández and Benfica play against Juventus who are without Ángel Di María and Leandro Paredes. Juventus will have Matías Soulé available for them.

Marcos Acuña, Gonzalo Montiel, Erik Lamela and Papu Gómez will want to win their first game in the Champions League against last place Copenhagen. Erik Lamela has been in great form for Sevilla, scoring twice in their last two games.

Julián Álvarez and Manchester City are away against Borussia Dormtund. City presently top their group.

Nicolás Capaldo and RB Salzburg can top their group with a win against Chelsea. Capaldo has been out of the team for RB Salzburg for their last three league games due to a knee injury.

Alexandro Bernabei and Celtic are in last place and they play Shakhtar Donetsk. Celtic are all but mathematically eliminated as they are last place in their group with one point. Here are the games involving Argentine players in the Champions League on Tuesday:

Sevilla (Marcos Acuña, Gonzalo Montiel, Erik Lamela and Papu Gómez) vs. Copenhagen
PSG (Lionel Messi) vs. Maccabi Haifa

Benfica (Nicolás Otamendi and Enzo Fernández) vs. Juventus (Ángel Di María, Leandro Paredes and Matías Soulé)

  3. It looks like we will have 6 to 8 players in mid November who just recovered from injury. That is a huge gamble. If they suffer a setback in recovery or pick up another injury, we could be down to 18-20 players for the knock-out out rounds.

      • i dont think its that surprising. You have good reason to leave out acuna and montiel. Montiel just isn’t playing well and Acunas injury ruined his form.

    • Going on what you mentioned earlier, I think that if you keep posting this for a while the survey might hit that sudden wave of people that wake up from the dead as the WC is starting and you’ll get many more participants. But it might be interesting to keep a record of the first 30 or so people that participated (AKA, the regular mundo users/readers) and then at the end look at the results after that new wave of users to compare and see if opinions differ. Maybe regular users have greater opinions on certain players or maybe its even

  7. Fackin hell…so many injuries or exhausted players during a crucial time for players form. There is no choice but to hope they regain form during WC training.

    – Cuti, Di Maria, Nico, Lo Celso, Paredes, Acuna, Dybala, Palacios

    On the bright side, these guys are fired up and/or physically healthy

    – Messi, Toro, Enzo, Licha, Otamendi, Emi, Mac Allister, (Molina + RDP, not playing great but getting minutes)
