Finalissima could be on neutral ground, Santiago Bernabeau proposal refused

The Finalissima is set to be played on March 27 and with the ongoing conflict in Qatar, the match is set to be moved.

Argentina against Spain was rumored to be played in Portugal but a new venue has been proposed. According to Gastón Edul, the AFA have rejected the proposal of the match being played at the Santiago Bernabeau in Spain.

The AFA would want the match to be played at a neutral venue. According to Esteban Edul, the contract is that the CONMEBOL and UEFA each can market two Finalissima matches.

For the 2026 Finalissima, UEFA gave the rights to Qatar but now the bidding went to the Santiago Bernabeau. CONMEBOL are refusing to play the match in Spain as Argentina would be the away team.

London and Portugal are alternatives but there is not much time to resolve it. The solutions would be that CONMEBOL agree to play the match at the Santiago Bernabeau or the match is moved to a neutral venue or the match is suspended and played at a later date.

  1. why not Camp Nou ? it’s in Spain and Barca finally could give Messi a proper send off. then again, until Laporta is there, I don’t think it can ever happen.
