Lionel Messi spoke about Argentina’s 3-2 win against Egypt at the World Cup.
Messi scored and had an assist for Argentina in their win against Egypt. Speaking to the media after the match, here is what he had to say:
“Happiness for the qualification, it had gotten very tough. We suffered a lot again but this is the World Cup. All matches are turning out like this.
“It was a relief for everyone given how the match played out. But this group never gives up and fights until the end. It’s crazy what this group did today.”

Extremely disappointing performance from Argentina once again. The expectations from this team going into this tournament was that they were to be a much more calm and experienced team, but the showing we get is the opposite. Panic, players not knowing how to pass a ball, with even nervousness being translated into the atmosphere. Now going into the quarters where the opposition will begin to level above what this team is used to, we still have no idea the identity of this team and strongest 11 is in which favoritism is being chosen over players that are deserved of a place in the lineup. To me, this looks like a dead team walking. No more room for mistakes, already too many warnings these past 2 games. Hopefully Scaloni and the rest of the team can make it right
Argentina’s midfield is letting opponents string together way too many passes, and once teams get into our half, the defense looks extremely slow to catch up and recover. Inside the box, defenders seem completely unaware of where opposition players are, and even Emi’s positioning and reflexes haven’t bailed us out at all. I am not asking to drop Dibu but Musso is in a far better form while Emi has been horrible!
And then the moment we go a goal down, every opposition counter feels like it’s going to end in a goal. Even after the equalizer, Egypt almost scored again on the break and Paredes had to bail us out, and Marmoush’s dumbest decision-making helped us there. We haven’t looked this vulnerable defensively in years, certainly not until this World Cup.
Honestly, we got a extremely extremely lucky. Egypt looked gassed when we scored the first goal, and then our experience plus Scaloni’s substitutions, especially Lautaro and Nico.g made the difference. Lautaro is much better as an impact sub.
At this point, I’d seriously consider switching to a back three and defending deeper. Our center-backs have been too slow to react, and both Molina and Montiel are having nightmare tournaments. They’ve offered almost nothing defensively or going forward.
