Fernández got one behind fellow Argentina team mate Emiliano Martínez in their Premier League match. A pass into the penalty area found Fernández who scored to give Chelsea the 1-0 lead.

The Argentine now has four goals for Chelsea this season, his first since December.

Paulo Dybala scored twice for AS Roma in their 3-2 home victory against Porto in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League playoffs. The Italian team had drawn 1-1 in Portugal, and with an aggregate score of 4-3, they advanced to the Round of 16.

With Porto leading 1-0 in the 35th minute, Dybala pulled off a brilliant play, exchanging a one-two pass with Eldor Shomurodov, breaking into the box, and finishing with the outside of his left foot into the back of the net to equalize the match at 1-1.

Just four minutes later, “La Joya” took possession near the right side of the box, faked a move, cut to his left, and fired a powerful shot at the near post that the goalkeeper couldn’t stop, putting Roma ahead 2-1.

Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes started for AS Roma, while Nehuén Pérez and Alan Varela were in Porto’s starting lineup. Matías Soulé came on as a second-half substitute for the Italian side.

Lionel Messi scored for Inter Miami in their 1-0 win against Sporting KC in the Champions Cup.

Messi got his first official goal of the new year in the win against Sporting KC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. With the score at 0-0, Messi chested the ball down inside the penalty area, controlled it and scored iwth his right foot to give Inter Miami the 1-0 lead.

That goal gives them the win and the 1-0 lead going into Tuesday’s second leg.


Pablo Maffeo: “I would wait until I could get a call from Argentina”

Pablo Maffeo has stated that he will wait for a call up from the Argentina national team.

Maffeo is born in Spain to an Argentine mother and an Italian father but has stated that he would not play for Spain. The 27 year old right back is eligible to represent the Argentina national team and was called up in November 2023 for World Cup qualifying matches but did not play a match. Speaking in an interview with La Zona 10, here is what he had to say:

“I wouldn’t go with Spain because I would wait until I could get a call from Argentina. They were the first to knock on my door.”

“I would go before Italy than Spain. I have Argentina in my head…”

The Argentina national team will play Uruguay and Brazil in World Cup qualifying matches in March.

Julián Carranza scores for Feyenoord in 1-1 draw vs. AC Milan

Julián Carranza scored for Feyenoord in their 1-1 away draw against AC Milan, securing his team’s qualification for the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

With AC Milan leading 1-0, the Argentine forward came off the bench in the 64th minute. Just nine minutes later, Carranza received a cross from the left side by Hugo Bueno and powerfully headed the ball into the back of the net from inside the six-yard box, leveling the game at 1-1.

The Dutch team had won the first leg 1-0 at home, and this draw at San Siro sealed their place in the next round of the Champions League.
