Willy CABALLERO and more in, ICARDI, DYBALA out for Argentina

32

Willy CABALLERO, Ramiro FUNES MORI and a few other names are expected to make the Argentina National Team squad on Thursday with Mauro ICARDI and Paulo DYBALA both missing out.

It’s going to be an eventful Thursday for a number of Argentinian players and uneventful for two others, if the latest reports are to be believed. According to TyC Sports, Chelsea goalkeeper Willy CABALLERO is expected to make the Argentina squad. CABALLERO won’t be the only London based or even English based player to make the team with Ramiro FUNES MORI, Marcos ROJO and Manuel LANZINI all rumored to be making the list.

CABALLERO, an U20 World Cup winner back in 2001 with Argentina, has yet to play for his country at senior level. Ramiro FUNES MORI has been sidelined for nearly a year, having picked up an injury in Argentina’s World Cup Qualifying loss to Bolivia last year. Marcos ROJO has not been included in the Argentina team as well for some time due to his injury which came early last year as well while playing for Manchester United in the Europa League. Manuel LANZINI, who has been in and out of the team under coach Jorge SAMPAOLI is rumored to be back in this time around.

The big news is that both Mauro ICARDI and Paulo DYBALA are strongly rumored to be left out of this squad which will play against Italy and Spain in March. The two (for various reasons) have not been in the best of forms (with DYBALA having been injured) and SAMPAOLI will drop them come the list on Thursday.

As we reported a few days ago, Paulo DYBALA was expected to be left out of the team and with Lautaro MARTINEZ in fantastic form, we could see the Racing Club youngster in the squad at DYBALA’s expense.

Lautaro MARTINEZ hattrick for Racing Club in Copa Libertadores

A Lautaro MARTINEZ hattrick for Racing Club sealed a 4-2 victory against Cruzeiro in the Copa Libertadores.

Two goals in the first half and a thrid in the second gave Lautaro MARTINEZ his first Copa Libertadores hattrick in his first Copa Libertadores match. Not only one of the hottest prospects in Argentina but of South America, MARTINEZ’s value continues to grow and the week can get better for the Racing youngster.

With Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI once more in attendance, MARTINEZ gave the coach three more reasons to call him up for Argentina on Thursday. SAMPAOLI will announce his list on Thursday and with strong rumors that Paulo DYBALA of Juventus missing out, it could mean that MARTINEZ make it into the team.

A beautiful touch after a lovely cross sent into the area in the 14th minute gave Racing the 1-0 lead. Cruzeiro drew level in the 30th minute with a header to make it 1-1 before they hit the post in the 32nd minute.

Lautaro MARTINEZ gave Racing the lead right before the end of the half when the club from Avellaneda played a short free kick and MARTINEZ slotted the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half, the Brazilian’s came close to drawing level hitting the crossbar. With 18 minutes on the clock in the second half, MARTINEZ completed his hattrick off a flying header to give Racing a 3-1 lead. Cruzeiro pulled one back off a fantastic free kick. Racing eventually made it 4-2 with SOLARI scoring the final goal of the match.

Lautaro MARTINEZ hattrick

MARTINEZ is the latest 20 year told to score a hattrick in the Copa Libertadores. The last 20 year old to do it? A certain NEYMAR in 2012 against Internacional.

Argentina friendly match against Israel in June

The Argentina National Team will play a friendly match against Israel in June.

We are just a few months away from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and things are beginning to take shape for Jorge SAMPAOLI’s men. While rumors of Paulo DYBALA getting left out of next month’s friendly matches broke out on Monday, other news officialy got announced as well. The team will play a match against Israel on June 9 in Tel Aviv.

Coach Jorge SAMAPOLI and his men will be based in Barcelona (while also training at FC Barcelona’s facilities) prior to flying off to Russia. SAMPAOLI wanted to stay based in Barcelona and play a friendly match at the Camp Nou, however there were change of plans and the team will make the 3 hour flight to Tel Aviv to play the match.

Argentina’s opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be on June 16 against Iceland, meaning the match comes exactly one week prior to their World Cup kick off.

Report: Paulo DYBALA won’t be included in Argentina’s squad for March friendlies

As the 2018 FIFA World Cup inches closer, Argentina manager Jorge SAMPAOLI must figure out which players work well together in order to come up with a final roster of 23 to take to Russia. One of Argentina’s stars in world football, Paulo DYBALA, could be in a bit of danger in terms of being present for the summer tournament. TyC Sports reporter Martin Arevalo, who is usually spot-on with his information, reported today that DYBALA will not be a part of Argentina’s squad for the upcoming friendlies against Italy and Spain.

This can be taken in a variety of ways. The alarmists will likely assume DYBALA has lost his place in the team, and they will point to the friction caused after his comments about not being able to play alongside Leo MESSI. The level-headed fans will point to his recent form and the recent injury that he had been dealing with for the past month before returning a week ago.

His absence in the upcoming friendlies in no way eliminates his chances of being at the World Cup. DYBALA is still one of the most talented players in the world. While DYBALA and Argentina fans shouldn’t necessarily freak out, this is at least a slight cause for concern. DYBALA was expected to be the next big thing for the Argentina national team, but that hasn’t happened to this point.

This might be a blow to that dream, but DYBALA’s talent should shine through in the end. Argentina will need DYBALA to play a big role this summer if they want to lift the trophy. But he will need to get in form and make a good impression on SAMPAOLI when given the chance before June arrives.
