Argentina friendly match against Nigeria confirmed

2

Argentina will play a friendly match against Nigeria in November.

The Albiceleste’s second match in November has been confirmed and it’ll be against African country Nigeria. The match will take place on November 14 in Krasnodar. There were also rumors that the team would play Croatia however that didn’t happen. With Russia already confirmed, these matches for Argentina next month are the following:

Argentina vs. Russia on November 11 in Moscow
Argentina vs. Nigeria on November 14 in Krasnodar

The last time Argentina played the Nigerians was in the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup where Argentina won 3-2 with Lionel MESSI scoring twice and Marcos ROJO scoring. Long time Argentina fans will also remember having the Nigerians in the same group at the 1994, 2002, 2010 and 2014 World Cup’s.

Jorge SAMPAOLI: “We decide if HIGUAIN goes to World Cup”

43

Argentina National Team coach Jorge SAMPAOLI had a lot to say about the Argentina team, from Lionel MESSI to Gonzalo HIGUAIN to much more.

With qualification secured and two friendly matches (supposed to be played) next month, SAMPAOLI has a beat of breathing room. Following the announcement of his latest squad to play Russia and a second team, the coach had this to say:

Jorge SAMPAOLI on Gonzalo HIGUAIN

“HIGUAIN is a player that’s always present. He has nothing to prove. It’ll be up to us to evaluate if HIGUAIN will be at the World Cup or not.
“Making sure that players are able to play with each other is a coach’s job. I don’t see it being that difficult for MESSI and DYBALA to be able to complement each other on the pitch.

Jorge SAMPAOLI on Argentina

“The friendly matches are confirmed. We will play against Russia and we are in advanced talks for the second one. Argentina are in the elite. Germany Spain have the advantage becasue they’ve had the same ideas for years. A coach knows that one day he is insulted and the next he’s not. I am aware of that. I had to complete the goal of a country who’s main priority is football: That was to qualify.

“The list won’t change much from the last one (domestic based list), it’ll be four or five players from the domestic league. If there are players from Boca or River Plate, they will travel after the Superclasico.

Jorge SAMPAOLI on Lionel MESSI

“Leo brings what he always brings: Being the best player in the world. I’ve always had a Leo that was committed, amateur and full of emotions. I’ve been thrilled to see MESSI. Seeing him committed excites us all.

Jorge SAMPAOLI on Sergio AGUERO and others

“AGUERO gives us a chance of a partnership with Leo (MESSI) on the pitch. I also see him as a number 9. Today, we have the chance to pick among the best forwards in the world. The partnerships between players should be a lot.

“The obligation to win is something that has been generated in football. They’ve discarded the idea of losing. We must try to relieve the obligation to win and make the team feel happy.

“These matches will help us evaluate PEROTTI and KRANEVITTER. I see ROJO as a central defender and not as an attacking full back. But for ACUNA I do.

“The AFA President has always been by our side.

“I’ve come for this: To coach Argentina at the World Cup. A World Cup is totally different from the qualifiers. The obligation to win sometimes makes you doubt yourself. Now we have to prepare. We are going to be on top of every player to ensure they reach the World Cup in the best way.

“The World Cup draw brings in a mountain of emotions. It’s very important to see what the group brings you. It’s not the same to play an Italy or an England in the first round.

Diego PEROTTI makes new list for November friendlies!

31

Jorge SAMPAOLI has revealed a new list for the November friendlies with Diego PEROTTI included in the squad.

We know Argentina will play Russia but we don’t know who they will face in their second friendly of the same month. Here is the list down below. Notable omissions: Manuel LANZINI and Enzo PEREZ. Anyone else? Looks like HIGUAIN has been left out again. Two new faces: Matias KRANEVITTER and Diego PEROTTI. What does everyone think?

Goalkeepers:
Sergio ROMERO
Nahuel GUZMAN
Agustin MARCHESIN

Defenders:
Javier MASCHERANO
Federico FAZIO
Gabriel MERCADO
Nicolas OTAMENDI
German PEZZELLA

Midfielders:
Eduardo SALVIO
Lucas BIGLIA
Ever BANEGA
Marcos ACUNA
Leandro PAREDES
Emiliano RIGONI
Matias KRANEVITTER
Aleandro GOMEZ
Diego PEROTTI

Forwards:
Lionel MESSI
Sergio AGUERO
Mauro ICARDI
Angel DI MARIA
Paulo DYBALA

If any of these players are not able to make it, there are eight players who Jorge SAMPAOLI has as backups: Joaquín Correa, Angel Correa, Guido Pizarro, Emanuel Mammana, Giovanni Lo Celso, Manuel Lanzini, Gerónimo Rulli & Emanuel Insua.  He also revealed that he is closely monitoring the recoveries of both Ramiro FUNES MORI and Marcos ROJO.

In terms of the local based players: Darío Benedetto (Boca), Enzo Pérez & Nacho Fernández (River) would be the local players that are picked. Also, there will be a fourth player that gets picked and that would come from either:  Fabricio Bustos (Independiente), Pablo Pérez (Boca) or Lautaro Acosta (Lanús).

Lionel MESSI and Angel DI MARIA score in Europe

Both Lionel MESSI and Angel DI MARIA found the back of the net in the Champions League.

Two of Argentina’s three attacking players who started against Ecuador were on the scoresheet in Europe this week, with Lionel MESSI scoring for FC Barcelona and Angel DI MARIA for PSG. MESSI scored and assisted in Barcelona’s 3-1 win against Greek club Olympiacos. MESSI’s goal was his 100th in Europe, making him the first non-European player to reach that milestone. On top of la pulga’s free kick, he also had a lovely assist minutes later following a typical Lionel MESSI dribble inside the area before passing it to Lucas DIGNE who scored.

For Angel DI MARIA, it was a different kind of goal. A strike similar to the one he scored in the 2008 Summer Olympic games in Beijing against Nigeria which won Argentina their second consecutive gold medal. A chip over the goalkeeper for Angel in PSG’s 4-0 win against Belgium club Anderlecht.

Gabriel BATISTUTA: “We have to copy National Teams”

52

Argentina legend Gabriel BATISTUTA spoke about the Albiceleste’s current situation as well as Gonzalo HIGUAIN and Jorge SAMPAOLI.

The former Fiorentina striker was speaking on Radio La Red where he expressed his concerns and gave his thoughts on everything going on. Here’s what he had to say:

Gabriel BATISTUTA on his concerns:

“We have to copy the National Teams that are doing things well. It would be a lack of respect not to listen to TAPIA (AFA president). I would have to talk and express all of my concerns.

Gabriel BATISTUTA on Gonzako HIGUAIN:

“I believe they treated him very badly. He failed in moments where everyone was hoping he wouldn’t fail but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to play. Furthermore, he’s a world class forward. Who goes to Russia? None of the three (HIGUAIN, ICARDI and BENEDETTO) deserve to be left out of the list.

Gabriel BATISTUTA on Jorge SAMPAOLI:

“We still haven’t seen SAMPAOLI apply his style. Hopefully what SAMPAOLI has is more than what we have seen so far. It was difficult for him to work in this situation because it was a delicate moment (when he took over and during the World Cup Qualifiers) but he was given two very easy matches at home (against Venezuela and Peru) where people were only expecting victories and that put a lot of pressure on him.”
