Lionel MESSI, Sergio AGUERO score to end season on high note

Lionel MESSI and Sergio AGUERO both scored on Sunday as their team’s failed to win their respective leagues.

Heading into the last La Liga match day of the weekend, Barcelona knew that even with a win, they could still lose La Liga and that’s what happened. Lionel MESSI scored twice (missed a penalty and a clear cut chance) in Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Eibar. MESSI’s first goal was a penalty kick which was nearly saved (it would have been the second of the night) and his second goal was nothing short of genius. Running through ever Eibar player in his way, MESSI wiggled his way around them all and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Just like Lionel MESSI’s FC Barcelona, Sergio AGUERO’s Manchester City did not lift their league trophy but did manage to score twice in a 4-0 win against Watford. AGUERO, who did not make the Argentina squad, is the 5th player to score 20+ goals in three consecutive Premier League seasons, SHEARER, HENRY, Van NISTELROOY and KANE being the other four players. AGUERO ended the season on 33 goals, a personal best in a Manchester City shir.

Alejandro GOMEZ, Gio SIMEONE score in wins

It wasn’t only Paulo DYBALA who managed to score this weekend as Alejandro GOMEZ and Giovani SIMEONE both scored in Serie A wins.

It’s been a highlight week for Alejandro “Papu” GOMEZ. After receiving his first senior call-up to the Argentina National Team, he scored the only goal in his team’s win which sealed European qualification. GOMEZ scored the only goal in Atalanta’s 1-0 win against Empoli.

Giovani SIMEONE also scored on Sunday, netting goal number 12 for the season as Genoa got a 2-1 win against Torino.

Lucas CASTRO also found himself on the score sheet, however, unlike GOMEZ and SIMEONE, couldn’t get a win as Chievo lost 5-3 to AS Roma.

Juventus have now won their second title this season in their drive for the treble. After having won the Coppa Italia earlier this week, Paulo DYBALA scored a fantastic free kick goal for Juventus’ second of the match as the team celebrated a record 6th straight Scudetto title.

17

The never ending rumors involving Jorge SAMPAOLI and the Argentina National Team have finally come to an end.

Ahead of the last La Liga weekend of the season, Sevilla coach Jorge SAMPAOLI has addressed it all concerning his time with Sevilla and him joining the Argentina National Team. Speaking to the media, the Copa America winner had this to say:

Jorge SAMPAOLI’s comments:

“I feel like I have to go. Based on the needs of my country, I have to be there. I’m not leaving Sevilla for another club. If it all happens, I’m leaving Sevilla for my National Team. The chance to coach my National Team has once again resurfaced and I can’t turn it down.”

“To give the list (Argentina squad), I have to have Sevilla’s authorization.”

It’s also being reported that Sevilla have accepted that the AFA pay them SAMPAOLI’s €1.5 million release clause.
