Lionel Messi was ranked in the top three of ESPN’s greatest athlete of the 21st century.
Messi was the only football player coming in the top 10 of the list. The Argentine came in third, behind first place swimmer Michael Phelps and second place tennis player Serena Williams. Here is the list of top 10 players:
1: Michael Phelps 2: Serena Williams 3: Lionel Messi 4: LeBron James 5: Tom Brady 6: Roger Federer 7: Simone Biles 8: Tiger Woods 9: Usain Bolt 10: Kobe Bryant
Andrés D’Alessandro spoke about Lionel Messi’s talent.
D’Alessandro played most of his Argentina national team career without Lionel Messi but the now retired midfielder took part in a handful of matches with Messi. The Argentine spoke on the Charla Podcast about Messi and his talent. Here is what he had to say:
“I played a bit with Leo in the national team but I played. Messi in training, he would get the ball and pass everyone. He was very strong. In training he impressed us. He’s small, has a low center of gravity, fast and light. At 18-19, he was a monster.”
He was also asked to pick between Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona:
“I’ll stick with Messi. More complete when it comes to scoring. Diego had more charm but Leo is more complete. And Messi has remained at an absurd level and performance for 15 years. And now he is a World Champion, which was missing.”
Federico Redondo scored twice and assisted once for Inter Miami in their 3-1 win vs. Toronto FC.
Redondo was the Argentine who stole the show for Inter Miami on Wednesday. With Lionel Messi watching in attendance, it was the 21 year old who was involved in all three goals for Inter Miami.
With the score at 0-0, it was a ball over every one from Redondo which found Diego Gómez and he would score to give Inter Miami the 1-0 lead.
A cross into the penalty area by Julian Gressel and Redondo would head it in to give Inter Miami the 2-0 lead. Redondo’s second would come minutes later.
Another cross into the penalty area and the ball would fall to Diego Gómez who would pass it to Redondo and the Argentine would score his second goal of the night.
