Lionel Messi scores twice for Inter Miami vs. Columbus Crew, wins Supporters’ Shield

Lionel Messi scored twice for Inter Miami in their 3-2 win vs. Columbus and lifting the Supporters’ Shield trophy.

Messi scored two goals in two minutes for Inter Miami, late in the first half. A cross by Jordi Alba found Messi who controlled it and with the ball bouncing, lobbed it over the goalkeeper to give Inter Miami the 1-0 lead.

The Argentine would score again, moments later. Inter Miami were awarded a free kick and it was Messi who took it and he would score to give Inter Miami the 2-0 lead.

Inter Miami would go on to win 3-2, with Columbus scoring two and Inter Miami adding another goal. The club was awarded the Supporters’ Shield trophy which is given to the team which the most points in the regular season.

Martínez made several saves for Aston Villa to make it two wins out of two in the Champions League, once more, not allowing a goal. A one on one save on Harry Kane, a save from an effort outside of the penalty area and a close range save.

Mac Allister got his first ever Champions League goal, playing in his second Champions League match. With the score at 0-0, Mohamed Salah played a cross into the penalty area which fell to the feet of Mac Allister and the Argentine would score from close range to give Liverpool the 1-0 lead.

Di María started for Benfica in their win, in a match which had Benfica start two Argentine players and Atletico Madrid start three Argentine players. With the score at 1-0 for Benfica, they were awarded a penalty kick and up stepped the Argentine who scored to give them the 2-0 lead.

He played 71 minutes before being substituted out for Benjamín Rollheiser. For Atletico Madrid, Rodrigo De Paul, Julián Álvarez and Ángel Correa all started.

Argentina national team announced for October qualifiers
The Argentina national team for the October World Cup qualifiers was announced this Wednesday.

The Albiceleste will face Venezuela on Thursday, October 10, and host Bolivia on Tuesday, October 15, at the Estadio Monumental.


Lionel Messi, Nicolás Tagliafico, Leonardo Balerdi, Exequiel Palacios, Thiago Almada, and Nicolás Paz return to the team. Emiliano Martínez, who is suspended, along with Matías Soulé, Ezequiel Fernández, Guido Rodríguez, Valentín Castellanos, Giuliano Simeone, and Valentín Barco are not included.
