Marcos Acuña scored for Sevilla in their 3-0 win vs. Granada.

Acuña got his first goal of the season for Sevilla after missing much of it due to injury. With the match at 0-0, Jesús Navas sent a cross into Acuña and the Argentine would head it in and score to give Sevilla the 1-0 lead.

Erik Lamela and Lucas Ocampos both also started for Sevilla in their win.

Argentina World Cup winning coach César Luis Menotti passes away

Argentina’s first ever World Cup winning coach César Luis Menotti has passed away.

César Luis Menotti passed away on Sunday at 85 years of age. The former player turned coach was the first Argentine coach to ever win the World Cup with the national team, having lifted it in 1978 in Argentina.

Menotti played for Rosario Central and Boca Juniors in Argentina while also playing with Santos in Brazil. He first coached Newell’s Old Boys and was part of the Huracan team which won the Argentina championship in 1973 at club level.

The Argentina FA posted the following:

“The Argentine Football Association regrets to announce with great sadness the death of Cesar Luis Menotti, current director of the national teams and former World Cup winning coach of Argentina. Farewell, Flaco querido.”

He coached most of his career in South America but did coach FC Barcelona in Europe where he won the 1982-1983 Copa del Rey, the 1983 Copa de la Liga and the 1983 Supercopa de España.

After winning the 1978 World Cup with Argentina, Menotti also won the 1979 Youth Championship, which later became the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Lionel Messi was one of many who took to social media to pay tribute to the former great, posting the following on Instagram:

“One of the great references of our football has left us. Condolences to his family and loved ones. RIP.”

Exequiel Palacios scored for Bayer Leverkusen in their 5-1 win vs. Eintracht Frankfurt.

Palacios reached four goals in for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season in their win. With the Bundesliga champions leading 2-1, they were awarded a penalty kick and it was the 25 year old who took it.

The Argentine took the penalty kick, going to the goalkeeper’s left and the goalkeeper went the wrong way with Palacios scoring. He now has six goals in all competitions this campaign, the most he has ever scored in a season.

Walter Benítez wins Eredivisie with PSV with most clean sheets

Walter Benítez won the Eredivisie with PSV with 18 clean sheets, the most in the league. The Argentine goalkeeper only conceded 19 goals this season.

With this achievement, Benítez reached his fourth title at the Dutch club. He had previously won the Dutch Cup in 2023 and the Dutch Super Cup in 2023 and 2024.

The former Quilmes man debuted with the Argentina senior team in a friendly match against Costa Rica in March of this year.

With Emiliano Martínez as the undisputed starter, Walter Benítez along with Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Musso, Gerónimo Rulli and Franco Armani will all fight for the second and third goalkeeping spots in the 2024 Copa América list.

Julián Álvarez scores, reaches 100 appearances for Manchester City

Julián Álvarez scored as he reached 100 appearances for Manchester City.

Álvarez started Manchester City’s 5-1 win vs. Wolves on the bench but his substitutions meant he had played 100 matches for the club. Just three minutes after being substituted into the match, the Argentine received a ball and he took it in his stride, finishing with a left footed effort towards the far post.

The 24 year old has 18 goals this season, 10 of them in the Premier League.
