Hernán Crespo’s Al Ain make AFC Champions League final

Hernán Crespo’s Al Ain have qualified for the AFC Champions League final.

Crespo continues to impress in his coaching career. Despite losing the second leg 2-1 agaonst Al-Hilal, it was a 5-4 aggregate win for the team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The 48 year old eliminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr on penalty kicks in the quarter finals before eliminating Al-Ain to reach the final. They will play Yokohama FM or Ulsan in the final of the Champions League.

As a coach, the Argentine won the 2020 Copa Sudamericana, the 2021 Campeonato Paulista with Sao Paulo and in Qatar won the 2022-2023 Qatar Stars League, the 2022-2023 Qatari Stars Cup and the 2023 Qatar Cup with Al-Duhail.

Per reports by Argentine Journalist Gastón Edul, River Plate is in talks to sign Germán Pezzella, 32, of Betis. The player’s release clause is 4 million euros.

The World Cup champion center-back started in River Plate’s youth divisions and played two years in the first team between 2015 and 2017.

In the 2023/2024 season with Betis, he had 38 appearances so far and scored once. Along with his Argentina teammate and also former River Plate man Guido Rodríguez, Pezzella has been a key player for Betis in the last three years.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami vs. New England Revolution on Saturday could potentially break a ticket record. With over 60,000 tickets sold for Saturday’s match at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, it could become a new ticket record for New England Revolution.

The current Revolution attendance record for a match is 61,316 and the Gillette Stadium attendance record for a football match is 67,584 fans. Inter Miami are presently first place in the MLS and New England are last place in the eastern conference.

Lautaro Martínez won Serie A with Inter after a 2-1 win vs. Milan.

Martínez started for Inter in their 2-1 win vs. Milan which also won them Serie A. The 26 year old did not score in the match but he does have 23 goals and five assists in 28 matches for Inter this season.

He has now won Serie A two times with Inter, the first time in 2020-2021 and has seven trophies with the club. Lautaro has won the Coppa Italia two times and the Supercoppa Italiana three times.

Lionel Messi scored twice and assisted for Inter Miami in their 3-1 win vs. Nashville.

Osvaldo Godoy of Mundo Albiceleste was in attendance as part of the media and he would capture Messi scoring in the warm up and his penalty goal in the match. Messi had two goals and one assist for Inter Miami, as he was involved in all three goals in their win.

Nashville took an early 1-0 lead through an own goal but minutes later, Messi would score his first of the game. His initial effort on goal was saved but the ball would fall back to him and he would get the rebound and score to draw Inter Miami level.

A corner kick for Inter Miami and Messi would take it, his cross inside the penalty area found Sergio Busquets and he would score to give Inter the 2-1 lead. But Messi had one more goal.

Inter Miami were awarded a penalty kick and up stepped the Argentine who scored to give Inter the 3-1 lead. Messi’s penalty was his first in the regulation 90 minutes of a match since scoring against Hugo Llorris for Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final.

He now has 20 goals for Inter Miami, nine away from Gonzalo Higuaín’s club record of 29 goals. Messi has nine goals and five assists in nine matches for Inter Miami this season.
