Atletico Madrid eliminated Inter in the Champions League Round of 16 penalty shootout.

Diego Simeone’s team made it to the next round of the Champions League following a 1-1 draw and a penalty shootout win against Inter. Lautaro Martínez started the match for Inter with Nahuel Molina and Rodrigo De Paul both starting the match for Atletico Madrid

Molina and De Paul were both substituted out and did not take part in the penalty shootout but Ángel Correa was substituted on and did kick. The scire was at 1-1 and it went to penalty kicks.

Ángel Correa was was the next to kick for Atletico Madrid and he scored to give them the 3-1 lead going into a potential last kick for Inter. Lautaro Martinez stepped up for Inter and his effort went high and he missed with Atletico Madrid winning and advancing to the next round.

Lisandro Martínez will travel with the Argentina national team for the March matches.

Martínez will be joining the World champions when they travel to the United States later this month. According to Gastón Edul, he will be training with the team but he is still recovering.

The 26 year old has only played in eight Premier League matches with Manchester United this season, having suffered a first injury which kept him out from September until December and another injury which he suffered last month.

Alan Varela was substituted out injured for FC Porto.

Varela started FC Porto’s Champions League match against Arsenal but was substituted out due to an injury. The match, which went to penalty kicks, saw Varela as one of the best players on the pitch but was taken out on a stretcher right before the start of extra time.

The club have yet to comment on the 22 year old’s injury.
