Matías Soulé and Valentín Castellanos reportedly pre-selected for Argentina team

Matías Soulé and Valentín Castellanos have reportedly both been pre-selected for the Argentina national team.

Soulé and Castellanos could be included in the Argentina national team for the November World Cup qualifying matches. According to TyC Sports, the two players have been reserved by Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni for the November matches.

Per the report, the Argentina national team coaching staff have began calling and have already reserved a few players. This would not mean that they are called up to the national team as the final list is expected in the upcoming week.

Valentín Castellanos has one goal and two assists in nine Serie A matches with Lazio. The 25 year old striker joined Lazio from New York City FC.

As for Soulé, the Italian national team is looking to call him up. He has five goals and one assist in nine Serie A matches with Frosinone.

The Argentina national team play two World Cup qualifying matches. The first against Uruguay on November 16 and the second on November 21 against Brazil.

Ángel Di María scored a free kick and had an assist for Benfica in their 2-0 win vs. FC Arouca.

Di María continues his great form for Benfica, this time with a goal and an assist. With the score at 0-0, Benfica were awarded a free kick and it was the Argentine who took it and scored to give them the 1-0 lead.

The second half saw Benfica score a second goal which was assisted by Di María. A cross deep from the right side of the pitch towards the penalty area found Arthur Cabral who scored.

The 35 year old was one of six Argentine players recently selected to be on a mural for Benfica.

Four Argentine players were ranked in the top 20 for the Ballon d’Or.

Lionel Messi was the star of the ceremony on Monday as he won his eighth Ballon d’Or award. Emiliano Martinez won the Yashin award for the best goalkeeper and they were joined by more Argentine players.

Lautaro Martínez finished in 20th place in the rankings for last season where he made the final of the UEFA Champions League with Inter. Emiliano Martinez finished in 15th place in the rankings.

Julián Álvarez made the top 10 as he finished in seventh place for his treble winning season with Manchester City.

Lionel Messi wins record eighth Ballon d’Or award

Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or for a record eighth time.

Messi continues to make and break his own records. The Best player in the world lifted the award on Monday in Paris for last year’s incredible season, most notably at the World Cup.

At 36 years of age, Messi lifted the Ballon d’Or becoming the oldest player to do so. He also becomes the first player to win a Ballon d’Or in three different decades.

Having won it in 2009, he went on to win it three years in a row from 2011 to 2013 before winning it in 2016, 2019 and the last time in 2021 after winning the Copa America. While he won Ligue 1 with PSG, his greatest achievement came at the World Cup.

Messi scored seven goals at the 2022 World Cup while being named the best player in Qatar and winning the World Cup with the Argentina national team.

Emiliano Martinez wins Yashin award for best goalkeeper in the world

Emiliano Martinez won the Yashin award for the best goalkeeper in the world at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Martinez won the trophy which honors him as the best goalkeeper in world football. The Best goalkeeper in the world had this to say:

“I’m full of emotion to have won this. Without my teammates at Aston Villa and in the Argentina national team, this wouldn’t have been possible – this moment in my career.”

The Argentine won the award with Ederson of Brazil in second place and Yassine Bono of Morocco in third. Here are the rankings:
