Ángel Di María confirmed he will not play in the Olympics in case Argentina qualifies.

In an interview with TyC Sports, Di María spoke about Scaloni’s future in the national team, his possible arrival at Rosario Central after the Copa America and more.

On the rumors about whether he would play the Olympic games with Argentina, here is what he had to say:

“There are times when you have to step aside and make room for the next generation.

“I don’t see it possible to be in the Olympic Games; I think it is over. The Copa America will be the last. It is the perfect moment to say goodbye to this jersey.”

About returning in the near future to his first club Rosario Central, Di María stated the following:

“I am calm. I wanted to come to Benfica for a year and from there see what would happen. My head is calm and if it has to happen, it will happen.”

“The truth is that I would like to play a Libertadores with Central again. I played it once when I was 17, I was very young and I couldn’t experience it as much.

“My time at Central passed very quickly. It would be a dream to win it, something very nice. It is a dream to win a title with Central and I would like to fulfill it. But winning the Libertadores would be more than a dream, something historic and the best finishing touch that my career could have.”

About coach Lionel Scaloni and his possible departure from the national team some months ago, Ángel stated the following:

“He is like the father of all of us. It is obvious that it is a very big pressure; we experienced it with many (coaches) who were here and could not endure it. He did not tremble. I believe that he always made the best decisions and that he should continue being in the National Team for many more years.”
