Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay could skip 2030 World Cup Qualifiers

According to journalist Esteban Edul, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay would not take part in the South American qualifiers for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The three nations are set to be co-hosts of the tournament and would therefore receive automatic qualification.

The 2030 World Cup will have its main venues in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, but Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are each expected to host one opening match. This hosting role would grant them direct entry to the competition.

The decision has not yet been made official. It is expected to be confirmed at a future FIFA congress, where the final regulations for the qualifiers will be decided. If approved, CONMEBOL would need to adjust the current format, reducing the field from 10 to 7 teams competing for the remaining spots.

Such a change would mark a new scenario in South American qualifying, with fewer matches and a different structure compared to previous editions.
