Nico Paz scores free-kick and provides assist for Como in 2-0 win vs. Lazio

Nico Paz continues to impress in European football. The 20-year-old midfielder played a decisive role in Como’s 2-0 victory against Lazio in the opening round of the Italian Serie A.

Paz set up the first goal shortly after halftime with a brilliant play. Receiving the ball in midfield, he cut inside on his right foot, accelerated, and delivered a precise 30-meter ground pass through Lazio’s defense to assist Douvikas for the opener.

Later, in the 72nd minute, Paz sealed the win with a spectacular free kick. From a difficult angle for a left-footer, he curled the ball into the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The strike was met with a standing ovation from the home fans.

Lazio had briefly thought they were back in the game when Valentín “Taty” Castellanos scored, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for a narrow offside.

Despite Real Madrid passing on the €8 million buy-back clause this summer, they could still bring Paz back in future years under different options. For now, the midfielder is making headlines in Italy and gaining valuable experience.

Paz has been called up by Lionel Scaloni for Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers in September.
