Eduardo SALVIO and Gabriel MERCADO are both officially out of the Argentina squad for this month’s matches with Renzo SARAVIA called as a replacement.
The two players which were supposed to occupy the right back position have had to widthdraw from the Argentina team due to injuries and have been replaced by Racing Club’s Renzo SARAVIA. Interim Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI will now be able to count on three full backs for the matches against Guatemala and Colombia. Those three being Fabricio BUSTOS, Leonel DI PLACIDO and now Renzo SARAVIA.
For Gabriel MERCADO, he has reportedly suffered a fracture in his right arm. In Eduardo SALVIO’s case, a blow in his ankle will keep him out of the two matches. Both players were part of Argentina’s squad during the World Cup with Gabriel MERCADO scoring in the match against France.
Saravia was recently better than Bustos or Di Placido. There was rumour about him (also on Mundo) before Olimpic Games. He was near to went there. Then little forgotten. He deserves the call up.
In this season he had few impressive performances including neutralazing Matias Vargas.
I think Salvio has nothing to do with the national team if they don’t play in 343. His only added value is his high work rate. He is not enough creative as winger and will be too old in 4 years anyway.
Mercado is not a reliable defender, too much faute, not enough good tactically. He was in big troubles against France despite his lucky goal. And same as Salvio, too old in 4 years.
feels like mercado type player,,, would have better suited in midfield, like a b2b not fullback because he is not that fast. still i’d prefer tall defender not someone like acuna or bustos
Not a big deal, Had Mercado was there he may have occupied a spot in the backline which at this point is simply wasting a spot, We need a new backline, Taglaifico, Kanneman, Pezzella, Placido/Bustos, It may leak goals because they havent played together but we have to take risks which at this point is not catastrophical. Salvio also similar situation i guess.
absolutely. calling up mercado and salvio is useless. they dont belong to this Team anymore. we have to build a new Team and those old players that failed us badly simply have to go.
