The Argentina Superliga has started and with only one match left to play, Gabriel HEINZE’s Velez Sarsfield top the table.
Velez against Newell’s opened up the Superliga this season and despite losing star man Mauro ZARATE to Boca, Gabriel HEINZE’s men picked up a 2-0 win in Liniers. It took just one minute for the first goal to be scored. A corner kick lead to Luis ABRAM who was left all alone to head the ball into the net.
Just minutes later Velez had another opportunity in front of goal but BOUZAT was denied by a questionable stop by the goalkeeper. Still in the first half, Velez were awarded a penalty and Matias VARGAS doubled the lead from the spot as they ran away 2-0 winners.
Tigre against San Lorenzo was the other match on Friday and just like in the first match, we had an early goal in this one. A cross sent into San Lorenzo’s penalty area found Lucas MENOSSI who controlled the ball with his right knee and striked it with his ledft into the top of the net.
A defensive mistake just six minutes later lead to Federico GONZALEZ scoring to give Tigre the 2-0 lead. A bad clearance by the goalkeeper found a Tigre player and the attack was on as GONZALEZ calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.
San Lorenzo were back in it but not without controversy. Nicolas BLANDI’s goal was initially ruled for offside but upon review, the goal was given and Tigre’s lead was cut in half. Another defensive mistake, this time coming from Tigre as a bad back pass lead to Nicolas RENIERO pouncing to bring San Lorenzo back in it.
Saturday brought four matches, two of which ended 1-1 and the other two 0-0 draws. Gimnasia defeated Argentinos 1-0 through an own goal while Union picked up the 1-0 win against Aldosivi. Union’s goal coming from Franco SOLDANO. Patronato and Colon drew 0-0 while Belgrano and San Martin also ended goal less.
Argentina international Cristian PAVON gave Boca Juniors the 1-0 win against his old club Talleres. A shot from outside the area early in the match was enough to give Boca the win. Emmanuel MAS was taken down in the area and Boca were awarded a penalty but Carlos TEVEZ had his spot kick missed.
Another match on Sunday involved Godoy Cruz and Estudiantes de la Plata. Juan ANDRADA was sent off in the 19th minute for Godoy Cruz and despite playing for 10 minute the rest of the match, Diego VIERA scored the winning goal off a penalty kick in the 6th minute of injury time of the second half.
Nicolas FERNANDEZ was the hero for Defensa y Justicia as they drew 2-2 against Lanus. Despite scoring early in the first half through goals by Sebastian RIBAS (a penalty in the 7th minute) and Tomas BELMONTE (a goal in the 12th minute), FERNANDEZ scored twice late to hand his team the draw.
A goal from inside the area made it 2-1 in the 80th minute and a header just three minutes later was enough to give Defensa y Justicia the draw.
Matias CARRUZZO gave Rosario Central a 1-0 win against Banfield. A header from inside the area was enough to give them the win.
The last match on Sunday ended 0-0 between Huracan and River Plate. Monday’s match is Atletico Tucuman against Racing Club.
Gonzalo , what is your view on lisando magallan Boca defender who may be call by scaloni as per tyc sports ?
He is still around. Though his CB partners and others of the league usually impressed me more. U-20 Sudamericano 2013 alng with GIanetti. Olimpic Games 2016 along with Gianetti. When he was in Defensa y Justicia I preferred Barboza over him. I know he is in Boca but to me there are better or most talented CBs in this league. Alan Franco, Alexander Barboza, Lucas Martinez Quarta, Lisandro Martinez, Tomas Cardona, Marcos Senesi, Jorge Figal. Ok, maybe Magallan deserves to be on the list but IMO rather not the best.

LB Fabrizio Angileri from Godoy Cruz with another notable game yesterday. Was probably best player on the pitch and his team playing most of the game with 10 men beat Estudiantes.
Pavon scored winner against Talleres , though he didn’t impressed me and the shoot was deflected by defender. More impressive was CM Juan Ramirez from Talleres. Troublemaker in Boca defence line. Esteban Andrada save the 3 points for Boca with his admirable interventions at the end. While Herrera, goalkeeper of Talleres (mentioned by Sampaoli as possible call up) was even better, not ony because saved penalty. He is one of those goalkeeper worth following in league.
Nico Fernandez from Defensa with 2 goals, Gaston Togni with assist, as well as Lisandro Martinez. All the youngsters of Defensa mentioned here and there as interesting players. Togni and Martinez former U-20 players. The second is one of the best central defenders in league, along with his teammate Barboza. Defensa of Beccaecece is second to Velez team when it comes to promising youth material. Defensa draw the game against Lanus 2:2 despite being behind 0:2. Also Gaston Lodico from Lanus is player I could take to my team of youngsters. CM who reminds me a bit Cambiasso style.
Molina RB and Bareiro CB/CM from this Defensa team are also former U-20 players. Tevez, Miranda and Blanco worth notice. I suppose with Defensa Beccacece will prove he was right man in right place being in NT staff.

I don’t know. Safe opinion is to say BOTH. The teams will competitive each other in near future as always was. They are competitive in Copa Libertadores and so will be with NT. Brazil have most spectacular talent but Argentina often more practical while not that showy.
ALTHOUGH PAVON SCORED ,HE WASNT IMPRESSIVE . IMO jara ,zarate,pavon,arent impressive. ANDRADE is a little bit better

Argentina should move from otamendi, romero and benega only Aguero till copa 2019, must make a new Argentina team with young blood except messi
I think most mundo followers including me .want fresh faces and give chance the youth we all have to agree what is best for Argentina. This generation had good and bed times I believe they tried thier best .
I think we overrite some players like mesch biglia fazio di Maria higuain rojo acuna salvio meza Perez . To me they re average they shouldn’t play for the national team and definitely should never go world

I think it is better to give Maschi under20 coaching job . And we cant expect good results from scaloni and aimer bcz they r just same era as seniors doing….
We need coaches that is ‘ total controll over seniors…
So glad to see Velez doing well, really hope it continues because there are a number of talented, youngsters in important positions (Ortega at LB, Robertone at CM and Dominguez at DM).
Also glad to see Godoy doing well especially since their full backs (Angeleri and Abecasis) could prove quite important for the NT, especially Angeleric who is 24 and he had a great match to boot.
I really hope this youngsters blossom. Coz After seeing Meza and Bustos am really depressed.
Velez will face much more stronger opponent in 2 round – Racing. Academia will be the favourite. Velez have problem with RF Bouzat and lacks of good striker. Anyway it’s going to be exciting duel.
Argentine Media reporting that Scaloni and Aimar will contact the seniors (Messi, Aguero, Banega, Dimaria, Romero, Higuin, Otamendi) to know their plans with the national team and weather they are willing to continue or not.
While it is clear that except Messi , Dimaria & Aguero has already expressed their desire to continue (Via Instagram) so did Otamendi and Banega. Only Higuin didn’t cleared his stance , which I think is not going to bother anyone. Thus, if Scaloni thinks that their experience will matter in Copa ( I still think Scaloni-Aimar will be in charge till Copa as no big names is currently interested in taking up the job and appointing a farmer as a coach will generate huge backlash from media and public) then he can summon them for the March Friendlies ( Two FIFA dates are there in March) before the COPA. But he should use the remaining friendlies this year ( 4,5 or 6 whatever it is) to try the young guns and see how they cope and set up a proper formation so that if any Coach is appointed in December he can just take it forward from there onwards. Further if there is any contractual obligations to select 7-8 players form WC roaster in Russia then select the players apart from the above mentioned seniors like Dybala, Pavon, Meza, Lo celso, Acuna, Salvio , Armani etc.
no manager will join with current squad if dimaria, messi, aguero, meza, salvo are there.
