Rodrigo De Paul spoke about playing for the Argentina national team and the World Cup qualifiers.

De Paul has been one of Argentina’s best players since Lionel Scaloni took over as coach of the Argentina national team. And in the 3-0 win against Venezuela, the Argentine was once more one of the best players on the pitch. Speaking to TyC Sports after the match, here is what he had to say:

“It’s incredible that we finished the qualifiers this way. It’s a dream.

“The shirt of the Argentina national team always gives you that boost. One never finishes the match tired. This group faces every match like a final because putting this shirt on is very nice.

“It’s always good to finish and keep a clean sheet. But the good thing is to never try and loosen up. We will get to the World Cup well but we still have a long way to go. We have to enjoy it.”

  1. Interesting things going on.
There will be a new FIFA ranking release on March 31st just before the draw.

Argentina is safe but Germany, Denmark and Netherlands are all scrambling for that final seeded spot, they are playing friendlies against each other during this break.

If Portugal fails to qualify, one of them will take that seeded spot, if not, it will be a toss between the four.

  2. The Striker situation is very concerning for a team known to have surplus of world class strikers. Its mind boggling that beside Lautaro we don’t have a proper no-9 as a backup! I remember the days when Champions League winner Diego Milito was struggling to make it into the team let alone the starting xi. I was watching post-match analysis on Mundo Youtube and Roy made a very valid point that J.Alvarez might be scoring for fun when playing for his club but whenever he was presented opportunities to play for national team his inexperience was obvious. His runs, his passes , his positioning everything makes it clear that he needs more international exposure. Next season he will be playing in EPL, clubs and fans there don’t have much patience. He is already 22yrs old and if he shows the same inexperience with his runs and positioning in England then he will not only be benched but he will be written off and sold the subsequent season, wasting one whole year without any competitive futbal as City have paid peanuts to get him. We have around 5 -7 matches left before the World cup and in those matches Scaloni either needs to give him adequate time on the pitch so that coaching team has sufficient time to determine whether Julian should go to the world cup or not!!

Out of A.Correa, J.Correa and Dybala, the most clinical one is Dybala but he won’t press like the other two as pressing is key part of Scaloni’s strategy. With both Dybala and Messi on the pitch , our continuous pressing will take a big hit!! J.Correa has had enough chances to prove himself and hence we can conclude that he is good in pressing and positioning but not goal scoring. Scaloni will need to provide A.Correa and J.Alvarez ample time to get used to playing upfront and build some chemistry also have some backup plans like Simione or even Icardi(who again doesn’t fit Scaloni’s pressing game).
