  1. Very smart from Scaloni by starting the core players again. Evidently, last match we didn’t look as sharp as we used to. On multiple occasions our midfielders and forwards weren’t able to pick up and anticipate each other’s runs which is due to the 3 months gap between matches. Also, Scaloni should have used Otamandi last match and paired him Licha instead of Pezzella. Hopefully Licha will be paired with Romero in the second half and Molina will be more involved in attack and his flank will be challenged by the Jamaicans. Scaloni should also stick with Julian as a sub for Lautaro and play Messi as no-9 like last match once Lautaro is subbed out. We need Messi to be back to his clinical best and at PSG, he doesn’t get to play as an out and out striker. Also if Dybala and Nico are match fit along with Papu,Guido and Enzo, they should also get some minutes. Our starting xi along with the regular subs need to play with each other as much as possible next match and against UAE.

Also , Simeone is eyeing Dibu as a replacement for Oblak if he doesn’t renew his contract! I wouldn’t mind this move to be honest. He deserves to play in Champions league and starting goalkeeper for a power house nation like Argentina should be playing for a top team and not for a team fighting to survive relegation.

    • i don’t like Messi playing as a 9. He just doesn’t do as well like he used. He kinda needs players in front of him as he often takes his time to get close to the box. Dybala, Alvarez, Toro, Di Maria, Nico making runs in behind or 1-2s.

      • Messi is not going to play as an out and out striker for us in the world cup. However, in the last match once Lautaro was subbed out Scaloni moved Messi to no-9 position. I believe Scaloni understands that Messi will get most chances in front of the goal even when playing behind the striker due his supreme footballing knowledge and positioning skills. We all know lately he has been missing a lot. Infact before the champions league match he missed around 10-12 chances in 3 matches for PSG and in the world cup we can’t afford that. Many argue that he is old which is why he is not the same hit man he used to be and I am glad Scaloni doesn’t see that way and knows its more psychological and confidence related and that is why he played him upfront last match. Every time Messi scores his scoring confidence sky rockets. If it wasn’t for that great save by the goal keeper Messi would have scored a stunning freekick goal for PSG which was also after he score the first goal. Long story short, we need old goal scoring Messi back along with his current playmaking form.

      • I also didn’t like Messi playing as 9 and Julian pushed to the left. I think it happened because Nico is injured and Papu was taken off. Scaloni needed someone on the left wide role.

In other scenarios, we might see Julian or Dybala (mostly DeMaria sub) replacing Lautaro and Messi remaining behind the two in the middle.

  2. Just bench Otamendi. There’s nothing to see from him that we don’t know. We need to see how Cuti & Lisandro pair play together to see how it looks like. What if Otamendi is suspended, which is very likely. He is prone to earn himself stupid yellow cards. In midfield, we need to see how other players do. How about Almada, Enzo and Guido?
Playing undisputed starters will not help much in terms of seeing what the other players can offer.

    • I beg to differ! Playing undisputed starters is the way to go. Haven’t we already seen what other players can offer by now? Now is the time to rebuild and polish that great team chemistry we had, which is why we need to only play our starting xi and the regular subs. Moreover we can’t judge a players ability based on performance of one or two matches. We don’t want another Meza or Pavon in the team again.

      • @sulav i disagree. I know we need to start most of the team bt its very important to play Romero and lisandro in a match. They haven’t played a single match together. If they need to start in a game in wc thn they might lack the chemistry and understanding u can’t play a cb pair in an important match when they never played together that’s too risky.

      • Exactly. Chem is so important right now. They were a little rusty so next game, i’d go with starting squad at least for 45 – 55 min.
Starting – ADM, Toro, Messi, GLC, Paredes, De Paul, Tag/Acu, Ota, Romero, Molina, Emi.
Subs – Alvarez, Dybala, Enzo, Licha, Guido, Nico,

There is 1 position though that i am honestly torn and its LCB. I love Ota and he deserves but Licha is such an exciting player but he doesn’t have the chem and experience right now. It’s also even harder to decide because both are doing so well in club. I guess it’s a great problem to have.
