Emiliano Martínez breaks Argentina national team clean sheet record

Emiliano Martínez has broken the Argentina national team clean sheet record.

Martínez was the starting goalkeeper for Argentina in the 1-0 win vs. Paraguay and 32 minutes into the match, he made history. Germán Burgos had previously gone 606 minutes without letting in a goal for Argentina which was a record and that record is now broken.

The World Cup winning goalkeeper surpassed the 606 minutes only 32 minutes into the second half against Paraguay. The last goal he let in was in the World Cup final and he has now gone 622 minutes without letting in a goal.

That piece of crap did spit at Messi and tried to play it off like he didn’t. Messi walked up to him and had a humble chat with him. I think Messi said afterwards that he doesn’t know who that boy is.
Paraguay had a new Argentina coach today. His is most successful coach in parguay league history.
Regardless. We had the ball almost 100 percent of match. I dont know the stats but we were solid everywhere. I didn’t see much weakness. Even if lauturo didn’t score he still filled his role. Alvarez is the future, can be played three diff positions at least. Macalister had three amazing passes and took a good deal if fouls. Depaul was terrorizing that right side all game.
    Btw!….
This was the exact starting formation I wrote the other day on the blog minus acuna.

  2. Nico, Nico, Nico. You notice on a left footed player, playing on the left all of his shots curl out and to the far right instead of toward the goal. Maybe he should play on the right? I don’t remember in recent memory a guy missing that many clear shots. I hope Scaloni can crack the code, because Lautaro and Nico over the past games couldn’t hit water if they jumped out of a boat.

  3. If a goalkeeper goes on continuous clean sheet, the defenders deserve more credit IMHO. Since the world cup we have faced only 2 difficult opponents and 1 easy opponent on a difficult altitude. Dibu did not have a big challenge other than on a very few occasions. He is an excellent keeper. But we should not read more into this record than it deserves. Let’s cheer for Cuti and Otamendi too.

  4. Another incredible stat is 7 out of the 10 managers in today’s Conembol qualifiers are from Argentina.
    Colombia, Uruguay,Bolivia,Paraguay, Venezuela, Chile,Argentina

  5. Good performance from team. While opportunities got missed out, overall it was a wonderful display of football with great chemistry between midfield & attack.
For me DePaul,Maclister,Alvarez,Ota,Lautaro,Tagli,Enzo,Romero did very good. I am not very bothered about Lautaro’s lean NT patch on goal. Maybe the scoring boots has been saved for next month’s Uruguay & Brazil games. The sync up between Lautaro & Alvarez is definitely going to trouble our opponents once Messi also gets into rhythm. Nico G runs a lot. But he stills looks wasteful in finishing.

      • Scaloneta not interested in possession just for the sake of it, Brazil still a transition team with fast forwards, so we will give them the ball to struggle or 50-50 maximum, dont let them spaces to run and they are dead, we have much more weapons.

  7. Nico remembers me an old dmaria in left wing. I think Scaloni should give him a chance in RW. He is not a bad player but a very useful player with multiple skills. Lautaro looks like Higuains level .His confidence level in NT is continuing badly. And Macallister. Is improving game by game.He can be a gud playmaker in this team..

    • Headless chicken Di Maria was running around cluelessly but he draw 2 or 3 defenders around him. Nico can’t get 1 single defender or even can’t create anything if he was released from the left wing

    • Nico and Di Mario cannot be compared. Di Maria inside the box is dangerous. Nico was clueless inside the box today and typically is. He is good in pressing and distribution. He lost 2 significant opportunities inside the box as he couldn’t dribble past the defenders.

      • That is what i am saying. Nico role need to be offensive as we only have pure attacker when you play enzo mac and de paul in midfield. The same happen in WC final while Di Maria was sub out. We lost all the offensive threat which make opposition team comfortable playing attacking while we can’t do much damage in attack. If we still want to use Nico , then acuna is a must. Taglia is not good at overlapping

  8. That Otamendi’s goal must have been straight from training session 😀

We better use the next game to field some younger players. Apart from Brazil, the 3rd and 4th place cannot catch our points unless they win their next game we lose ours.

  9. I missed the first half while stuck in traffic and the consensus seems to favor a better first half than 2nd. I’m sorry but DePaul is a MONSTER and exactly what was/is needed on this team. Was it me or that SOB Paraguayan spat at Messi???
9 Points in the bag and on to the next one.

NICE save from DEBU and congrats!

    • It seemed watching two different teams in two halves. First half we were sharper, hungrier and energetic. Second half we started with lapse of concentration when Paraguay almost scored. Then we played percentage football. Then comes Messi. He looked rusty. Even then he managed to hit the post twice.
